lighting for this half bathroom

last month

what type of lighting would you put in this half a bathroom? The walls are being painted Benjamin Moore classic gray. I am keeping the vanity and the granite. The mirror is being replaced with an arched mirror and black, thin trim. The pictures on the wall are down and any suggestion besides the chandelier or the lighting I’m open to.

Start over? What is the flooring outside the powder room?

At the very least, make CERTAIN you want to be married to a dated vanity granite top.

No please to gray anything in here, and definitely not with the flooring.

I understand resources......but sometimes it is better to save, and delay: )

Gray??? WHY?? Brown and gray are not a combo that works. You plan to keep three shade of brown but choose gray for the walls???????? Let alone gray died with COVID.

The powder room in my previous house had similar floor tile and the vanity was about the same color as well. I used BM Pale Almond on the walls. It's an off white that leans in the right direction to go with the floor and vanity. Sometimes colors don't come across well in pictures, so be sure to sample. I don't think Classic Gray is going to work.

Why a black mirror I see no black in the space , Lighting for me the best in one good ceiling light ideally LED 4000K and nothing else for lighting. Black thin metal framing is usually for a more modern space I see nothing modern either . What is the real reason for this cahnge, start there.

Lighting should be decided once room is done and consider having an electrician add above the mirror.

It’s really important to consider how to pull the room together as grey walls, wood vanity, black mirror, the granite and flooring won’t feel coordinated. Suggest painting vanity and choosing a wall color that will tie everything together.

Overhead lighting is the least flattering. If you can swing the cost, I would do 2 narrow sconces on either side of the new mirror.

You could potentially look into replacing the flush-mount light right above the mirror, and/or you could look at doing sconces on either side of the mirror. Below are a few of our recent bathroom designs, which have sconces, and should help you some with your dilemma.

I love sconces on either side of a mirror, but we can't tell if anything will fit, especially on the left side.

I would love wall sconces, however, they will not fit on the left side of the vanity - I did buy a thin trim black arched mirror I was hoping to get away with only upgrading by painting and doing accessories as I am on an extremely tight budget because I am having all the work to the house done this was just a quick upgrade

Very sorry....... the paint color is not an upgrade.

This is what I mean by delay. Which is Better than trying to do too much and falling short.

You're "having work done all over the house......"

But if gray paint is the thing? If you love classic gray? You're keeping the floor?

Paint the vanity Black, get a remnant to make a WHITE solid surface top, re use the sink and faucet !

Add some art! Please get the lighting addressed........: )

Sorry to pile on but I also agree that the pivot to grey and black doesn’t work with your hard finishes. If it’s not in the budget to do all of the other changes let me suggest that you stick with chrome (a simple mirror update will freshen it up for sure)….and get a 3 light flush or semi flush light on a dimmer so the lighting can be adjusted as needed. And, sticking with warm tones will work with your floor and counter (get samples in a few shades of coral, peach, sun washed rusty reds, etc to see what appeals to you. And Bev showed you what it would do to move your existing art should you choose to work with what you have. Don’t fret it’s only paint and a returned mirror (so far :). Good luck!

I'll add that a simple wood framed mirror in a tone to match your vanity would also work....I'd suggest a larger rectangle to fill up that wall vs a round or oval. And, if you are feeling wild and crazy you could color drench the room in the new paint.

Thanks for posting your progress so far with the grey paint. I understand being on a budget and also shimmying this in with larger projects that are costing more and taking more thought. Can you press pause with the painters and give yourself the weekend to test and think about other wall colors?

Say more about why you were drawn to the grey in here and why you selected the black mirror. Understanding your reasoning will help us help you achieve a look you were going for. (Does it match a tiny fleck of color in your counter? I'm guessing that is the case.) Unfortunately, when I glanced at the pic, I thought it was primer.

After you select the right color for the wall, I'd hold off on hanging a mirror. Lean it up against the wall and show us a few pics.

With going grey, you may want to include in other ways, or the room won’t feel connected due to the flooring and strong granite.
