My laundry room only has a W&D and sink cabinet. My plan is to put a cabinet over the sink and then a hanging rod over the W&D. In my last house I had cabinets over the W&D and hated them. I could only reach stuff on the bottom shelf and the rest required a step stool to reach.

You must have a pretty large space for this to have two walls of cabinets, so that's awesome.

If you want extra storage, do cabinets to the ceiling.

I’ll chime in as another short person - at my last house I had an open shelf and cabinets above my washer/dryer. Mistake! The stuff I put there was never touched again until we moved. Too high.

You can also use drawer bases in a laundry room for better and more easily reached storage.

I rarely hang wet clothes, except coats and ski pants. Those I hang over the tub in the bathroom.

When we had kids at home, I had a hanging rod in the laundry room. I put clothes on hangers as soon as they came out of the dryer, and hung them up according to who they belonged to, then distributed them accordingly - taking empty hangers back to the laundry room in the process. Now that it's just me and Hubby, and I'm retired, I take clothes out of the dryer and directly to the closet, to be hung or folded as needed.

Lexigs, you certainly appear to have room in your vacuum closet for a folding step stool. I keep mine between the washer and the wall (our laundry room/pantry is just off the kitchen). The advantage to tall cabinets is that you can add extra shelves, and adjust the lower shelves so you can reach them. Top shelves are for rarely-used items, or lightweight bulky storage (like paper products).
