I do NOT recommend American Woodmark for anything cherry. They are a high builder grade, and use a low grade of wood and then tone it with a heavily pigmented clear, to make the heart and sap even out more. That just muddies and disguises the beautiful grain.

What should happen with a quality cabinet line is that you get better matched doors, with less sap, in a natural cherry. You also should know what natural cherry looks like, over time, as it ages. Kemper/Diamond/Schrock have a nice natural or lightly stained cherry, with higher grade wood, and are a mid grade line. Same with Kraftmaid/ Merillat Masterpiece, Medallion/Yorktown. All have nice mid grade options. For outstanding options, look at Plato, Crystal, Omega, or Woodmode.

American Woodmark is for a builder who wants to offer some customization and mostly does painted. Not cherry.

upgrade to Kraftmaid Vantage!

Not raised panel, but here's a cherry laundry room I did in a laundry room (not mine, for a client). Go mid-grade to get the better finish on Cherry. Don't go low end coz what the poster said above is true. A lot of entry level cabinet manufacturers use tone...not a wood absorbing finish. Kinda lays on top and can scratch white sometimes.

I'd get a quote from a custom shop while you're shopping for cabinets; you might be surprised that custom isn't much more or maybe about the same cost. I'm in the western suburbs and along with my designer met with people at Styleline and Romar. I ended up going with Romar based on lead times and am very happy with my cabinets, but I'm sure I would have been happy with Styleline as well. I don't have cherry cabinets, but it's worth giving a custom shop a call and setting up an appointment if they have what you're looking for.

Do you have any suggestions of a custom shop that would deliver here, or even how to search for one? Whenever I look it up on Google, I get a bunch of places that sell the big brands.
