Help picking countertops

last month

We had our cabinets painted SW Dover White. Now we decided to change countertops and backsplash. We decided on quartz. We cannot decide which one looks best and if we should use it as backsplash too or do a different tile backsplash.

depends on the natural lighting in the room, the flooring, and any other furniture or textiles, hardware including light fixtures. What size is the room? is it a stand alone kitchen or open to a dining area, living room? In the end it's a personal choice.

We thought we had decided but on a whim I drove out to the showroom to see bigger samples and brought put wall colour and cabinet colours with us. I’m so glad I did as we changed our kitchen and master bath quartz based on seeing the bigger pieces

Absolute yes on using the counter top as a back splash. It's such a clean look!!

How about some pics of your space??

What is your budget? Full height splash from counter material can be costly. There also is the issue of veining. Depending on your layout, it won't line up! It also adds dimension to your wall so you have to see how it will be next to window trim and behind the stove.

the cabinets have received a nice refresh. However thery are still older cabinets. I would leave the counters intact. You can replace the backsplash altho I dont mind the existing one . I would restrict my expednditures on the existing kitchen...... More useful might be when the appliances need replacing to go for stainless.....is that time coming up?

you could put a nice sized single pendant over the island for a little something extra..I'd do that before the extra expense of counters. this selection has some good scale..but not too fussy or showy.

There are a gazillion kinds of quartz. Can you post a few that you have narrowed it down to? Give us some ideas of the look you are going for? And yes, have you priced this out? If you can afford to do countertops and backsplash in quartz, could you afford a different countertop altogether and do it with a tile splash instead?

You have already spent a lot on repainting and I bet the counters are granite . IMO quartz is a downgrade but I do think a redo of the backsplash could add a touch of up to date fix. You need a hood above the cooktop for sure . I always hate seeing people throw good money after bad , the cabinets are dated the counter looks good with your floors , any quartz with gray in it not so much

the granite has lots of chips and dings and we hate the sink. the backspash is dated and grimy. I am not a fan of granite, too busy and I don’t want to seal and maintain it.

If it were me, I’d pick out a very low key quartz with minimal/no veining and get that in on the perimeter. I’d do a low key wood top on the island - once that was all in, i’d pick my tile backsplash

FWIW we have Dover White cabs and did madre perla quartzite counters and slab backsplash

corian on the perimeter/ select a tile backsplash w some focus.... mainly work on what you can do in the middle at the island....the space can use the emphasis there.

wood top/ a pendant...good results esp w the wood floor already in place.
