Thinking of her due to H Melissa, which is up to 160 mph winds. Also thinking of people on Jamaica and the other islands affected.

Such a tragedy for all the people of the northern Caribbean. I hear the winds actually reached 185 mph - the strongest winds ever recorded for an Atlantic hurricane. I looked back over some of the posts. Four months ago, Char was in Grenada, which is the very southern tip of the Caribbean islands. Hurricanes are less frequent in the south. Let's hope she's still down there. The typical hurricane season is June 1 through November 30. My sister is leaving for Bequia, which is close to Grenada, next week. Their restaurant opens about December 1.

Sorry, I was off grid for a while, traveling. Melissa was pretty far from us, but the tropical wave that spawned her blew through Grenada about a week or so before she was named. All good here. I've just had alot on my plate lately.

I’m glad to hear from you, and that all is well. Hopefully we are done with hurricanes for this year!

We are seeing quite a few trees with color this fall, that we didn’t see last year. We think Debbie and Helene stripped many trees of their leaves last year.

I have a sister named Helene, lol. When she gives people her name, she now always says, "like the hurricane".

My son & daughter in MO said the leaves were late to change this year. Too warm there. I miss the spring and fall changes.. its always summer in the West Indies 🏵

Hi, Char. Good to hear from you. I'm so excited. We are taking a cruise this winter, starting in San Juan and visiting St. Maarten, Guadeloupe, Mayreau, Soufriere and Bequia, where my sister will be. It's the first time I've returned to the Caribbean since 1994, and I'm so happy to be going. I take it that you are still in Grenada. What are your plans for this winter?

Lois, that sounds like an absolutely fantastic trip!

We are going to visit the kids in Missouri from Dec 10th to January 14th. The boat will be getting new bottom paint, hull paint up to the toe rail, some rigging upgrades and a small section of deck repaired. In Jaunuary, we will have a new bimini made with additional solar panels installed. If all of that is done by February 1st I would be astonished. Island Time prevails!

We are planning to go N with a stop in Bequia upon completion. We met an absolutely lovely couple from S Africa who wanted to buddy boat up to various islands to St Maarten through June 1st. Plans are fluid due to boatwork. When is you cruise scheduled exactly? I would really like to meet you in person if possible!

Char, I was born the year after Hurrican Donna and my dad used to joke I was named for the storm. (I was actually named for him - he was Donald.)

We'll be in Philipsburg, St. Maarten on 2/28; Les Saintes, Guadeloupe on 3/1; Mayreau on 3/2; Bequia on 3/3; Soufriere on 3/4. Then back to San Juan. I'm really excited to see my sister's restaurant and the house they are building. Be sure to stop in Bequia at The Porthole and ask for Linda. It would be great fun to meet up.
