I'm a big rug fan but your space looks good without. And the ease of cleaning while you have littles and pets at home is a major plus. Have you thought about adding eye level art and lamps?

Why not consider a seagrass, jute or sisal rug?

I think your area looks fine with no rug. I too have no area rug and love it, so easy. I agree with the suggestion of art and lamps to add a little warmth, but looks lovely and calm as is.

Love this space! I think the room looks great without a rug. It's best to keep your home suitable to your lifestyle (kids and pets). Either a floor lamp or a sofa table behind the sofa with lamps would definitely warm the space.

I'd add a long sofa table behind your sofa with a couple of lamps on it, and a picture on the wall. That will ground the furniture to the long wall a bit.

I'm a fan of warm, minimalism. You home does this look well. I don't think you need any lamps or artwork on your walls. (Well, lamps only if you are unable to read and have to add them as a light source.) Plus, I really like how .you floated your sofa and it may look weird to have art on the walls with out furniture beneath.

I’m going to be a dissenting voice. It’s a lovely room, but it looks unfinished without a rug. Too much exposed, hard surface. It looks cold and probably makes sound reverberate in odd ways.

I have a dog and use those flat weave, patterned washable rugs. My washer can handle one that is 8x10 and I do have a robovac that does great on them.

I think no rug works well in the space but I do not agree to no art I think that will finish the space but find a piece you love and IMO a couple less pillows and for sure some more lighting.. I just moved into a new place and all hard sufaces so have added some rugs to help with the sound they seems to be helping . I am not a huge fan of rugs everywhere though .

I love it - in fact I may try my living space with no rug (and not having to haul out the upright for one rug). I agree with the art comments and think a nice reading lamp on or near the mantle might provide better light for reading. Great look. And you can always add the rug back if you want.

If you moved your sectional back a bit, a round rug might work. With its smaller size and location it won’t get as much wear and tear and will be enough to add interest and warmth.
