Paper piecing fails

Lately I have been thinking about doing more placemats, something easy and not needing days on end to finish., as well as tame the stash!

So I did that first set about three weeks ago, using a pattern from etsy. I had also at the same time, bought a pattern for a pineapple designed mat. I have a pineapple quilt in my ’want to do’ queue and figured this would be a start. What I didn’t realize when I ordered, was that this is a paper pieced pattern.

I think I have only done one pp block and that was for our old Block Lotto exchange. But hey, how hard can it be!

I imagine pp blocks are easier to work on when they are relatively small. This sheet of paper is about 15x20. whew! four printer sheets taped together!

I am doing fairly well with it but after two major boo boos, I am taking a break, and reading more about pp. And I would not recommend this pattern for a first timer, the instructions are a bit vague.

Easy? not needing days to finish? What was I thinking.!

That pineapple pattern has been around a lot. Looks simple but apparently it is not. So you will not be making matching mug rugs?

That’s a really pretty pattern. I can see why you were drawn to it. I know you will finish them, and they will be beautiful.

Sorry about the Jays’ loss. Being a Minnesta Vikings fan, I’m used to disappointments. 😞

One down , three to go!

Funny thing is that a few years ago, I did do a set of mats almost identical, but they were not pp’d. now I can’t find the Pattern.

What drew me to this picture and eventually the pattern was the colour. I have yards and yards and yards of a similar coloured batik sitting in a bin. Time to go and me to learn something new. An old dog can learn a new trick!!

I love the pineapple block and have only done one small block - but not paper pieced. That is a beautiful pattern and I can see with the rectangle, that paper pieceing would make it easier. I'm anxious to see your finished placemats!

LOL, Rho! The very thought of pp mug rugs makes me feel kinda sick...quilting torture method, lol!
