Search for "what did the pineapple symbolize in colonial america". You will find more than you ever wanted to know. I think your pineapple is a whole one with the leaves pulled back. Very cool!

Thank you both!! I did a little looking and yes -- tons of information! The detail at the top was new to me, but I see that it sometimes is included in the pineapple design and is in fact the crown or leaves of the pineapple. Thanks again!!

You have a bed in tiger maple, with a carved top, its probably a true 8-way bolt-up bed and was expensive when new. If there was a better photo set I may be able to identify the maker. It may even be a converted antique bed which was a specialtiy of Leanord's Antiques in Rhode Island, they had many styles similar to that.
