living room is too white- need area carpet

My living room is too white. white floors, walls, couch. i am hoping to bring a different look with an area carpet but i am not into colors really. i like stone, mixed metalsa, and natiral wood accents but the room is still too shiny it cheapens all my belongs. i was thinki of going with a darker carpet but its a bold move. any ideas.

Yes, it's very blah. There's no contrast in texture or sheen to speak of. White is a color too, and overuse of any single color leads to a flatness, with no depth. A rug on top of white carpet isn't going to do what needs to be done here. You need a natural wood floor, some tanned leather pillows, and some gosh darn art on the walls. That is a start. Wood has a color too. Those cognacs and cocoas and straw colors should exist, and be throughout the space. Worry about a rug after you get some wood in there.

    Perhaps a jute style rug?

Thank you so much. I also added this wind chime chandelier in the corner. The rod iron really helped a little.

If you want to add some color you can bring it in with a rug, some more pillows and a blanket. Otherwise the space looks great at the moment. Do you have an accent color you like?

How do I get wood in there? With what? I am not ready to invest in art.

For a color I don’t really have a preferred one - I like grey i suppose. I am more into textures like metal, iron, wood, STONE is my fav but I am afraid to add a carpet to it bc it’s going to change the room so drastically.

What if I played with the walls in the office nook and / or entry way?

You can virtually view some rugs for the room.

I boosted up the Bird of Paradise tree in the corner You can do that by placing it in a taller planter.

I've added some color to the toss pillows.

Art selection is going to be hard with this picture molding assigning locations on the wall.

You can try out rugs virtually on a number of websites. I used RugsDirect.com

That rug isn't available in gray.

Here are some swirly rugs in gray. The problem with gray is there are all different shades of gray and your sectional and table lean beige, so the gray rug doesn't always work with your furnishings. See below. I have listed the name of the rug on each photo.

I’m no pro just up past my bedtime. I don’t think the shiny surfaces cheapen anything. I think it’s the accent color red. Sorry but that is so overdone so many ways.

I’d like to see if you turn your sectional 90° counter clockwise, to separate your kitchen from the LR.

And I think lean into some glamour and look into a leopard print rug or other animal print. Maybe a hide.

I don’t like the desk area. That cheapens” it too imo. With a different coffee table could you add a chair (swivel?) with the back to the desk. It would block that view

Whoever measured the tv does not beleive in allowances lol
Can you show the window side?

Also, what is that screen panel in the corner by the palm? It looks blue to me but I’m skeptical haha

Beigey white and gray would clash worse that everything already does. Do you have to have white carpet? It's the biggest problem you have. Rugs won't fix it either. Can you not do a great herringbone wood? Or even a plank wood floor?

ustcallmepool There's not enough room to turn the sofa It will create a barrier across the width of the room.

That’s true I originally had it that way but it’s such an awkward strip between the kitchen and couch. Too narrow to fill and too wide to do something with. But I did like how the back of the couch looked from the entry way.

You need to add warmth and texture…you can do it with all shades of wood and neutrals it does not have to be a bright color.
