Should grid lines on window align?

Hi, I just got replacement windows fitted and the grid lines of the middle panel do not align with the side windows. I think it looks weird. Do you agree? Attached is the new window and then the old original one. Thanks!

    IMO They should align

Yes they should align. The outside windows are rectangular grids and middle is square. An error was made somewhere.

Lazy/incompetent work by the windows distributor, who should know his products well enough to know this would happen.

In my area window distributors have to provide full drawings/engineering even for replacement windows. Did you get anything like that, that might have shown the scale/sizing of the windows?

Can the grid on the picture window be removed?

Regarding the posts from WestCoast Hopeful and millworkman, have you asked the installers WHY they combined rectangular and square grids?

If the grids can be easily removed, you can have a plain picture window flanked by windows with grids. Some examples ...

Aligning the grid lines on windows can create beautiful visual harmony—especially when multiple windows are in view together. On the other hand, slight variations can also add character and highlight architectural features. The key: consistency in style, proportion and sightlines across the space.

I had Anderson windows installed when I replaced a circle top and the windows beneath. They didn't align right when installed, and when I called Anderson they actually did a video measurement through my phone and aligned all grids, including the rays of the circle top grids, perfectly, then sent their installer to replace at no additional cost.

Yes it does not look good. Either remove the muntins from the picture window, or have the window company remake it to align with the double hungs.

    Grids should definitely align.

As stated by @millworkman , they got the pattern wrong and they should line up. Someone messed up the order. Be sure that when they re-order the IGU for swap, that they reference the flanking Double Hungs on the order for proper alignment.

Is the center panel square - if so, maybe they just installed it wrong?

@dennisgli, definitely taller than wide. They just screwed the pooch with the grid pattern like i mentioned 4W5H instead or 5W4H like the old.

As MWM alluded to they most likely transposed the H and V count for the PW... The other possibility is that they ordered the windows to the factory default colonial grid pattern without consideration for the fact that these windows are in a bank of three. Had they been factory mulled instead of separate it likely would've been caught.

As also alluded to, this will require a glass swap with a new IGU that has the correct grid pattern. This should be paid for by the contractor UNLESS you signed off on this grid pattern for some reason, although even then it would behoove them to work with you as it would've been a misunderstanding on your part even if you did.

I understand now I agree a picture window might be a nice choice easy if the grids are removable and IMO a new window since the company screwed up if the grids do not remove

Thank you all so much! The contractor will fix it no problem. One more question…when a window has a half screen, is the screen normally on the bottom or top? We usually open the bottom of window so it’d need to be on the bottom but currently they are on top. I’m presuming this is switchable?

quite possible the factory made the mistake not the contractor. still, should be an easy fix.

the screen can be on top or bottom, thats normal. just pull it down.

The half screen slides up and down in the screen channel for top or bottom usage. The full screen would typically go in the same channel.
