We painted the floors of our new/old CA cottage white. We moved from a house in Maine where we had the done the same. Those floors received their share of dirt and grime but cleaning was not an issue. I do not know what the painters here in CA used but they do not clean up at all. The flat finish is contributing to this.

The dirt just settles in and after the first day of use it has been a downward slide toward really unbecoming floors. The only way to get most up is through down on my hands and knees scrubbing but the floor still have permanent dingy look. I assumed the painters knew what to use (yes, never assume). A contractor we brought in for additional work said they used a stain (and they left a gallon). They seemed to have used it on the outside decks and they are similarly disappointing. Can people recommend floor and deck paints
