sconces next to kitchen hood

I’d like to add sconces to either side of the hood. Mostly for decoration/to fill the empty space. Preferably battery operated. How would these look? Open to other suggestions.

I would not and personally I would remove the hself. All of these are just more items to get nasty from using the stove.

IMO the light needs to be further away from the wall and over the countertops. Some type of swing arm sconce will do that.

Is the range and hood centered between the fridge panel and the cabinets that sits on the countertop? It may be the camera angle, but it look like you have more wall space on the right.

If the hood is not centered, then I would not do the sconces. There are certain times when asymmetry is overrated, but I think it would bother me if they were not centered on the wall with equal distances to the hood.

We don't think you necessarily need the sconces, as the kitchen looks great as is. However it would add a decorative aspect and more lighting if needed. Note this kitchen design of ours with blank space:

Love your choice! The white range hood looks amazing with your cabinets and modern kitchen style. You could totally go for some Scandinavian lights or vintage candle sconces—they’d complement the space beautifully! 💛

Say more about your multiple posts with an itch to decorate this space. Did you renovate it or just move in? How long have you lived with it?

I think it is a beautiful, serene space that is not cluttered with visual information. Live with it before adding things here and there. Don't add lights just for decor. You are throwing off the balance of a good thing here.

You would need to go back and fix the design to have symmetrical negative open space around the hood to have sconces physically or aesthetically work. That is a giant NOPE for any of that.

@Minardi It is symmetrical. I think its the angle of the photo throwing it off.

Well it is beautiful and I hope you have loved using it. You just need some perfect styling touches. Look through AD and other high end mags to see how they style for photoshoots. You just need one or two eye catching items to create these little moments that your eye zings to:

Get a larger painting to lean to the left side of your hood. Or hang two copper pans on the wall there instead. Get larger cutting boards.

Put a large terra cotta potted plant to the right of the range.

Your kitchen is seriously beautiful. Add things that can be easily taken away and changed over time as you wish or as you see items that will look perfect in there.

I agree, your Kitchen does look very nice.

However, I was hesitate to put sconces or open shelving flanking the hood b/c no matter how good your hood is, some grease/smoke/steam/etc., will likely still escape and you will be cleaning them to keep them from looking grungy or dirty. Unless you don't cook, then it's just dust you need to worry about. It's not a slam, many people today do not cook and just want show Kitchens. (I wonder, though, with rising prices everywhere, if that trend will continue or if people will start coming back to home cooking as a way to save money.)

If you decide on sconces, be sure they are easy to clean. I do not recommend anything that is easily tarnished, scratched, or sensitive to other damage in the normal course of living and cleaning.

Nice space. Perhaps it is the photo angle but the recessed ceiling lights don’t look centered/well spaced over the counters and hood area. Do you have adequate light when cooking? If not, the sconces may not provide enough additional light.
