Countertop Dilemma

last month

I'm trying to finalize tile and countertop selections for our new build. I had originally planned on doing calacatta viola marble countertops in the master bath to match the marble tile in the shower, but in organizing my samples I found that the Calacatta Miraggio Gold seems to match the beige veining of the calacatta nicely, which would result in a pretty significant cost savings over putting the marble in. Would this work? Or should I stick with the marble? Navy tile is going on shower walls and tub surround - the marble tile and the countertops will not be directly adjacent to each other in the bathroom space. Any input is greatly appreciated, I have major decision fatigue!!!

Way too many different tiles in the pic. I dislike too many in a bathroom you get tired of those choices quickly then a gut job in your future. I would do the bathroom floors and shower walls in the 12 x24 tile on the bottom left . Then that same tile only smaller on the shower floor. Then if youwant that star marble use it for the vanity top easilty changed when tired of the blue .

Can you clarify/label ALL the selections in the picture? Show the floor plan for the bath? What's the flooring ( wood ) in the picture, and the plaid?

You seem to want a beige, navy whatever feel?: ) to the entire suite?

Add more and fuller context and show the builder plan for the ensuite, more if you dare:)

I should’ve listed them out! Starting on the left: wallpaper and potential paint colors (3) for master suite (the wood underneath is just a table). Underneath the paint samples is the 10” hexagon tile for the floors, with the Calacatta Miraggio gold quartz on top. Next to that are the navy 4x4 wall tiles for shower and tub surround. The final tiles on the right are the viola marble hexagon mosaic that will be in the shower mudpan, The marble field tiles are there to show the stone better, since that was what I originally planned as the countertop. You’re absolutely right, shooting for a navy and beige combo for the entire suite.

    Confessions.........

The bath combo feels forced and overload of selections.

What color finish is the vanity itself? I'm definitely not loving the bath floor, and despite your bath is indeed generous? I would keep shower floor and bath floor same, or a lot more closely related.

A relationship between a primary bedroom is very nice....however! It's not entirely the same longevity for both. A bedroom can change on a relative whim, versus the very arduous task of a tile change, hugely expensive if a shower re do.

Back up, pick the "I must have" element in that bath....and edit. Honestly, two tiles in a bath is a good edit, and the TOP on a vanity? Most give it an elevated status it rarely deserves. It can be plain,... it can be a white quartz, and don't FAINT, even a white Dupont Corian is often "plenty".

You only need so many stars in a show. What is/are the VANITY finishes?

    You want Ralph Lauren? :)

although the shower is large, Navy walls are especially dark and will make the shower feel smaller, not to mention the water stains show on a very dark surface.

I adore a high end masculine look. But, if you are starting to reign in the budget with finishes, it is like picking a little thread on a sweater and starting to see things unravel. Why? Because your quartz veining is going to look cheap and fake in a bathroom that has actual marble in it.

I'm all for being budget conscious, but you have to look at things as a whole and decide with a keen eye where to pull back. I'm concur with @JAN MOYER that if you are going for a lesser expensive countertop get one without veining - Corian is the best choice. (Don't think of an integrated sink low end Corian look. It can be used well.)

Can you show us your inspo pics and your vanity, lighting, tub, and hardware choices too? I bet you can get some great masculine glam for less if you move your choices around judiciously.

We used real white marble in the shower and vanity top, a rich look, both have etched considerably but to me it adds to the authentic feel of a timeless material. Just be aware of etching.

Sorry, the floor and wallpaper are a miss...the floor is a yellow-beige and the wallpaper is a pink-beige.

Also which areas are going to be painted and which are papered or is there wainscotting?

I agree...too many patterns and colors.

Calacatta Viola doesn't have blue veins. Do the navy tiles match the veining in the Calacatta Viola that will be used on the shower floor?

I LOVE real marble - but I worry about your shower floor. Also, I would never use a faux marble quartz for the vanity countertop when real marble is being used in the same bathroom. I have a bathroom full of marble - however, I decided that I needed a plain white countertop for the white oak vanity + for the curb/shower jamb/outlining the niche/top of pony wall. Installing more marble was just too much.

I personally would rather have the vanity with a Calacatta Viola countertop with a more subtle tile for the shower walls. Also, the floor tile would depend upon the actual slab of Calacatta Viola that was used for the vanity.

I also don't know how Calacatta Viola that will work with your wallpaper - however, you should wait to select wall paint colors + any wallpaper until after everything else has been installed.
