We are finally getting to flooring in our cottage for the bedrooms and a new extension that we will be building next year. All entrances butt up to our Ivory travertine floor. We have 2 engineered wood floors that we like but cannot choose because we like both. One is very similar to the floor , nice and light , the other one is a darker wood but has the same tone that is in the travertine. We will be using 7-1/2” boards .
Please let me know your thoughts .
Thank you

    it's a personal choice.

Depends on other permanent fixtures, cabinetry, built ins, furniture, lighting, your location...

would be nice to see the whole space as one.

I sthere reason for not just doing it all the same? I think I like the darker one boyt it is hard to sya with no real context . Waht is the new space going to be ? That might drive the choice

I also like the darker better. In general, I think that having something close that is not a precise match ends up looking like a mistake. Better to do something intentionally different.

I also think the darker is better.

I also like the darker on better.

I like the darker choice as it presents a bit warmer next to tile. Include enough for the addition so the color will be exact. Even though it is LVT, crazy changes can be made in a year's time.

Darker one, because I think it will be more flexible for coordinating other furniture colors with it.

    Both will work.

    - The darker seems to give more flexibility in furnishings and other colors you add to the room. The lighter may make things more washed out.

    - The lighter seems on the tail end of a trend and look dated sooner, whereas the medium seems more timeless. Though if you like them both, that should not matter.

    - The lighter has more color consistency and is easier to imagine what the whole floor would look like. I see great variation in color in the darker one and would want to order a box as a sample and play with it in the space before committing.

The lighter is much too gray, and that trend has passed by quickly. It doesn't look as good against the travertine. But if you are going to take the time and spend the money to replace the floors, the travertine should get replaced too. Don't patchwork it.

Thank you everyone for your input, unfortunately the pictures i took are showing everything gray!!there is no gray in the travertine floor or the floor samples, the light wood floor sample is cream colour not white washed and the darker sample is warm brown. There is taupe, cream and brown in the travertine.
Im trying to load some pictures but its not cooperating. It keeps freezing on me.

The 16 x 16 Ivory select travertine is a beautiful honed floor, in this day and age it would not have been our first choice for a floor, but there is nothing wrong with it , the area its in is in full sun and a very bright warm feeling room. We laid this floor in 2011, the travertine time! Its not changing.

We have decided on the darker floor the brown stain on the wood sample is also in the travertine floor and so is the cream that is in light wood sample but the brown is warmer. The wood flooring is select and above, I come from working in the stone industry for 22 yrs and hd is a fine fine carpenter so we are very particular in shade variation , knots etc. we will be laying the floor ourselves so there will be some control to make sure its blended properly. Im picking a box up directly from the manufacturer so ill see it before i leave the building.

Patricia the new addition will be a living room 18’ x 28’ with a pocket door so there can be some separation from the open concept kitchen dining living.
We have lived in open concept at the house we finished and now we want some separation in rooms, plus if we are going to be their full time we need more space.
We finished our house, every floor, ceiling and wall taken out, front flipped to back added an extension, new roof line, massive deck off the back, full basement. (7 yrs working weekends )and sold it last month, the building inspector they had told the buyers this is the first house he has ever inspected where he cant find one thing wrong with the house.
I received great advise for the past years when we were working on our house and I’m sure i will receive more great advise as we start working on the cottage.

We have the space to build onto the cottage which will become our house , 4 bdrm 2 bath . The original space will become the dining room, kitchen with a sitting area. New addition will start in the summer.
Ill keep trying on the pictures.!

Thank you everyone for your comments, we will be getting the darker one. We also thought it needs to look intentional also the travertine floor has a lot of the brown in it.
Here are some pictures , a few things before everyone comments.
Floor is staying and cabinets are staying along with the leathered granite countertops.
All furniture will be gone, new SS appliances will be coming in. The range hood is coming down and a new recessed hood is coming in with a slat front done in the same colour as the kitchen.
All pot lights will be coming down new one placed properly will be put in.
Ceiling is going to be wood painted Alabaster white , it was recommended by the engineer not to do drywall along with pot lights put in.
    .
The fire place will be clad in ivory travertine split face so there is some texture in the room. Unless someone could come up with something else to clad it with.
The picture that has the 3 pane window in it is where the new addition is going to go, we are going 18’ out and 28’ wide, there is a new entrance into the house included in this addition and will have the
14’ ceiling to match what we have in the existing.
The picture that has the shoe rack in it will be the washer and dryer along with cabinets to put stuff into and a broom closet.
We are thinking the doors for this unit would be done in the kitchen stain, unless you can tell me I can do them in the new brown wood floor colour.
The wall that has the single lamp will have a 6 ‘ floating cabinet with 3 drawers in the middle and 2 doors that will have slat fronts and shelving above it. Same handles are the kitchen handles, I would like to stain this the same colour as the new wood floor unless you guys tell me different!
The reason we decided on an addition is for another room as this one is now too small and it would be nice to have a room we can close off to the kitchen. I will post some more pictures.
The washroom vanity will also be done in the same stain as the wood floor unless you could tell me different.

Part 2! Th picture showing the fireplace pipes is the other side of the fireplace , we have a unit going into the hole that consists of 2 doors, and 3 glass shelves, stained the colour of the kitchen.
The picture looking out the patio doors is where the dining table will go.
The picture with the buckets will be
closed and a full panel stained the same as the kitchen

Where the wood is stacked there is going to be a cut out to accommodate the wood so it’s off the floor.

Your tile looks exactly like ours axcept ours is a porcelin dupe. Ours like yours also looks grayish or taupe in photos. Is yours more peachy toned or pink beige? Mine reads more pink beige in person . We are in the process of repairing our tile because we took out a large tub and now I’m trying to guess/match which grout was used. Alabaster or Antique White from Home Depot. Any idea what color grout you have?

I like the contrast of the darker wood as it looks like it has some warmth to it. the lighter one looks a bit more muddy.

Hi Lexi, no ours doesn’t read pink, I have purchase a box of the engineered floor in the darker colour and it’s beautiful . Unfortunately depending on how old your grout is, I don’t think you will be able to match new grout with it. I would suggest you take a piece of what ever you have ripped out , there should be some grout attached to it and maybe take it with you .
