study room suggestion

last month

I am buying a house built in the 70s and need help figuring out how to update the interior and how to use some of the rooms. It has two living rooms (den / living room ) and I was thinking of making the room with the fireplace into a study. I am putting a wood burning insert in the fireplace and getting rid of the tv. Would a desk look out of place in this room and if not where should I put it? any other suggestions for it are appreciated. I am putting pictures of the other living area below. any ideas on paint etc are good alsoAs for the two tone walls I am going to paint the bottom half something else if not the entire wall so suggestions there also please

I was thinking about ordering some full overlay doors and drawers for the kitchen cabinets and painting them cream or white also , suggestions on changing the kitchen light, I have big fluorescent one

The bathroom sink faucets need to be replaced, and I'll get smart mirrors. I guess nothing can be done about the proximity between the tub and toilet. I can use the toilet lid to hold my beer and charcuterie while I bubble bath.

any other suggestions on color changes to the

kitchen, bathrooms or anything else. I am not sure what the sunken area is for in the second living area. I am moving into this house in two weeks.

We need dimentions. I think a 'study' would be smaller than a living area. By definition one is used privately one is a public space which also assumes more people using it. Looking at your pictures the 'study' would be a huge room while the 'living area' rather small. The raised area with the chandelier would be the dining area. Your wood cabinetry as is has more value than the white overlays you suggested. Take any major changes slowly is always great advise. As far as bathrooms, double sinks are just not necessary. Reducing the length of the cabinetry would give you footage to move the toilet--but moving the drain is no small matter.

thanks for the answers. I won't be back in the house until closing, so I can't take dimensions until then, but the fireplace room is bigger than the other living area. I've attached a picture of a room attached to the master bedroom that could be used as a study, as it is much smaller. I'll have to measure it after closing. In the picture of the master bedroom, you can see the window opposite the built-in desk in the side room.

I never considered that two sinks aren't necessary, but to think about it, I can't remember a time when I needed to brush my teeth at the same time someone else needed to put on makeup, etc.

And thanks for the comment about the cabinetry. Is it better made than the cabinetry sold at Menards? Should I paint it a lighter color?

Also, I don't want two rooms with TVs. Do you need dimensions before suggesting what to do with the fireplace rooms? Do people use both the den and the living room now? I remember my cousins had both in the 70s, and the only time the den was used was when one had to walk through it to get to the bathroom. I never saw anyone sit in it ever.

would a wall hung toilet work perpendicular to the tub ? is there any way to fix the toilet right next to the tub? Does the drain issue make it too much work?

there is actually two bathrooms with double sinks/ The other bathroom is for two boys with similiar schedules but I dont think even they would need to brush their teeth simultaneously on a regular basis.
