new stairs renovation

last month

Hi, when you see the pictures you'll see that of course this isn't finished yet, but I now have almost a full wall. I don't know if I should do Waynes coatings up the side of the stairs or should I do a collage of pictures or any other suggestions
The opening under stairs will be a hidden door for water shut offwould be great thank you

And banister and posts still need to be put in and stain/paint also

I was thinking something along these lines

I would wait until everything is finished & then decide. Wainscoting leans traditional, which it appears that your house might, but I’d still wait, no rush, what are yiur thoughts re the wall leading from the entry? That might impact your decision.

Your right. If I want Wayne's coat I will have to tell the contractor. I guess I'll tell him to wait till banister is in

I think, its a smaller area, and wainscoting, just may not look good there. I would leave it, with just a nice coat of paint (washable type because kids and others will put their dirty hands there)

    I kinda love Wayne's coat!

Putting up wainscoting will not make any sense here as it is no where else. Paint it and live with the changes for a bit and see how you feel but I feel a wall of pictures would be great.

I do not think adding anything will b e good where do these go to?? THe stairs seem very narrow in fact the handrail will be tricky to keep from not invading that very narrow staircase . I agree no wainscoting it does not have space for sure . In fact even pictures hang on the staircase wall will probably get knocked off . i needa bit more info as to where these lead too.

No, we live on Long Island, very standard staircase for this area not narrow. I'm questioning the wall in the hallway outside the staircase not the inside. You all are right I'll wait until the paint, railing and job complete to get better idea and circle back. Oh the stairs lead upstairs to the bedrooms. (Levitt house)

    This wall

I would not put anything on that wall like wainscoting

The wall is too small for wainscoting to be attractive. Spend the money on fine balusters/railings.

(Anybody else thinking of Wayne’s World today? Yeah, I’m weird.)

Does wainscoting fit with the architecture of the home or the style of your furnishings? We can't advise because we see nothing but the staircase.

Will this area house your entry table? Can't tell from your photos.

What's more important now is the style of the balusters and railing.

Yes I'll send more pictures when finished. This is similar to what we are getting

This is my livingroom the stairs are a part I'd say

The lamps are different so are the pictures on the wall. I also am changing color of walls to cream like white linen or swiss coffee

I also think I will reupholstered the Ottoman to a creamish color also

It's a long room. The chairs are in the front of house closest to the front door and stairs. Couch back but same room

Does anyone else see a cat's face wearing glasses in the upholstery on the chairs? Just me?

Depending on the style of the house and your storage needs you may want to consider some built in storage options.

Something like this is a brilliant use of space - off season shoes, hats, gloves (depends on your climate). Even Christmas decor could hide under the stairs.

Or, some simple hooks woud also work. There are endless types of hooks you can chose.

If none of those ideas work, a lovely piece of art to harmonize with the furnishings in the adjoining rooms.

I do have to have hidden door for water heater access. That's why I was thinking wainscoting for that wall . But unfortunately the water heater is there so no storage.. I am just going to wait and be patient until job is completed

@M V, the fabric on the chairs is Kravet Latica, $107.00 per yard, a damask/paisley-style, and the install is nicely done.

    Consider taking a Rorschach test using this fabric for inspiration. : < }
