Black glass double wall oven - ?

last month

Hi - I am renovating my kitchen (finally) and am stuck on appliances. I am looking at the GE Monogram counter depth stainless fridge with the minimalist handles, and the accompanying "minimalist" double wall oven is primarily black glass with just a little bit of stainless trim. It is less stainless than I was expecting (and that I am used to) for a wall oven. I started to look at the GE Profile in order to get an oven with more stainless steel, and I can't tell if I am just overthinking this whole thing. My cabinets will be white slim shaker, with dark gray or black granite countertops (haven't quite decided the final countertop yet - it's between Silver Gray Honed and Via Lactea brushed), brushed nickel pulls and stainless sink faucet. I was wondering if anyone has pictures of wall ovens similar to the GE Monogram minimalist line that are primarily black glass with not a lot of stainless trim. I also welcome any opinions. Thanks!

I like a large window in my wall oven much more than more stainless but honestly which one is better for how you use it , thta is how you buy applainces . I actually have never owned applainces form one maker in fack almost all of mine have been from differnt makers in the same kitchen

are you going for a black and gray look?

For me, depends on where the appliances are in the space.

What is the wall color? the backsplash? Floor? How about some photos?

All white kitchen cabinets with dots of black doesn't appeal to me.

Thanks for the comments! I have no idea how to put my kitchen rendering in here. I don't care about matching brands either, but my refrigerator and ovens are right near each other, and I was told it looks better if they have the same handles. And, the handles I like for the Monogram fridge go with the handles on the GE Monogram Minimalist wall oven, which is the black glass oven. My kitchen designer said the black glass wall oven will be good in my kitchen, but I was wondering if anyone out there had pictures of a similar oven in their kitchen.

Reading about your interest in the monogram also reminding me of another option that might fit what you are looking for. Aesthetics can be very subjective of course so you would have a better idea, but I thought I would share this option.:

GE JTD5000SVSS ($2200) performed better than Monogram ZTD90DSSNSS ($6800) in CR's tests. Match with CR-recommended GE GNE25JYKFS refrigerator.

Top performer: Café CTD70DP2NS1. You should be able to find the Café refrigerator that corresponds to GE that will match in appearance.

it is difficult to offer suggestions/ideas without photos.

I prefer matching appliances, but have purchased different brands when I obsessed over one particular appliance, it's a rough call. Get what works for you.

Just a warning that the white/black/gray color scheme hit its peak a few years back. We're seeing less and less of that combination because people are finally off gray as a color they want in their homes.

Kitchens with wood features are gaining in popularity. I would say the fewer appliances you see the better. Most are built in and concealed by panels.

I think that first picture actually is the black glass oven I was talking about. Not sure if you even realized that - but thanks so much!

I have to say I have never thought about the handles on my applainces matching and funny thing is they almost always did so I guess I was lucky . Sort of no issue in the grand scheme of good kitchen function IMOin this space Fridgeadaire fridge / freezer columns KA wallovens not big deal but both functioned perfrctly for 18 yrs that IMO is what is important

@Patricia - I wish I had the room for column fridge and freezer! I'm jealous! I wouldn't have thought about the handles either, but the appliance guy and the designer both mentioned it - so now it's a thing to think about!

Top is a GE Monogram microwave, air fryer and convection oven all in one. Bottom is an oven and convection oven. We love these two together.

Your question made me look at the handles of my appliances. They are all different manufacturers and the handles do not look the same. BUT - I think the proximity of the appliances might make the difference. None of my appliances are side-by-side.

We always say you should buy the best appliance, not a “package”. Many will recommend Bosch for dishwashers, GE for refrigerators, etc. A good appliance is more important than matching handles. The layout of your kitchen matters more.

AJ Madison not only sells appliances at good prices, they have a ton of consumer reviews. Read them before you buy.

Sometimes it is hard to unthink something but if you KD is actually an indepednat one not a cabinet salesperson them n maybe they can help you unthink this NEED for matching nadles and get the appliances thta work for hw you ccok period nothing else . BTW those choices should have been all made and on hand vefore the design was done and too son to decide couters , wall color just too soon. You say you have a smaller kitchen tan mine why a wall oven at all they take up space that if it is at a premium I would not waste .

Thanks! It is so hard to unthink something - and it was the kitchen designer that mentioned matching handles! And, they are independent, not with a cabinet company. I guess they mean some handles are really round and some are square-ish - and not to mismatch those? I really don't think that any one notices handles at the end of the day, but, yes, hard to "unthink" it once someone says it! I do have room for double-wall ovens and do use both ovens. I still have lots of cabinets, so it's no problem to have wall ovens. My kitchen isn't small in terms of cabinetry. It is just not as wide as I would have chosen if I had built this house! I haven't decided wall color yet. That will definitely wait until install. It is more that I think the oven that has more black glass would look better with darker countertops and the ovens with more stainless steel may look better with with a more gray countertop. I am way overthinking this, perhaps!!

It’s also solely aesthetic - not function at this point, and it:’s really on me to just make a decision, and I just can’t quite decide! Not sure anyone can actually really help.

We have a pantry wall with stainless fridge, wall oven and built in microwave. I didn’t even think about how much glass vs stainless there was. Has worked out fine for us.

One of these ovens has more stainless steel trim. The other has more black glass. If they have excellent reviews then the choice is purely aesthetic.

Back to the handles thing: some handles have a very squared off look (my friend’s GE fridge for example) and others have a kind of stainless steel that looks brushed. Those two features might be glaring to you if your handles aren’t more similar. (Thank you for upping my OCD behavior! )

Lol - how about my OCD behavior!

My dishwasher in this house for 20 yrs 11 months has always been a different brand (and doesn't have handles) than the refrigerator, range, and OTR micro so never a 100% match on the handles. The refrigerator, range and OTR micro initially matched together. The micro was replaced a couple years ago, refrigerator was replaced July 2024. 100% mismatch now. No one has run screaming from my kitchen and there has been no effect on ability to produce food or the taste thereof. :-)

The Cafe and Monogram ovens are virtually identical. You'd just be paying $3,400 for the label.

I know - and I am not even sure how different profile really is from monogram, but I really don't like the Cafe handles, so the Cafe line is out.

  • last month

So you are paying 3k for handles?

  • last month
    last modified: last month

Yup, it's +$3400 for the oven handles and +$1100 for the refrigerator handles.

Monogram: $4300 + $220 for Statement handles. But the Monogram Statement handles don't look all that different than the disliked Cafe handles!

Cannot remember the last time I looked at my handles with happiness or sadness.

@wdcruise - I don't want the Cafe or the Monogram statement handles! This whole thing started because I want the Monogram minimalist handles for the fridge, and the minimalist oven is the one with more black glass than stainless. I originally just wanted to know if anyone had the minimalist wall oven and could share pictures.

I also don't look at my current appliance handles with happiness or sadness, although my fridge and oven handles currently do happen to match. And, when you are starting from scratch with a big house renovation, you have to make all sorts of decisions that you may not care about over time, but you have to make these decisions nonetheless. So, you end up having to think about and make decisions about things you may - or may not - ever think about again!

Sorry. I messed up. The price of the Cafe oven rose to $3600 and the Monogram oven is $6800 so the difference is $3200, plus $1100 more for the Monogram refrigerator (with either handles) so the total is only $4300 for handles. Sorry for the error.
