Bed suggestions

last modified: last month

Hi

Had a previous post going regarding trying to update 25 year old bedroom set. Cant afford a total redo, so going to start by replacing the bed., dresser mirror, and hardware and painting the room.

Any opinion on which of these beds may go well with the remaining furniture?

thank you!

I thought you wanted something less bulky?

With the style of your furniture, I prefer this style

I find this one doesn't coordinate:

These are less bulky. based on these , depending on which style ; I would be gaining 4-6 inches off the length of the foot board ( the sleigh bed extends out)

and 2-4 inches off the width

from what is in my budget, these were the simpler styles of upholstered beds .

I am not sure how much less bulky they can go. Some of them are heavily tufted ; which looked bulkier than these.

open to other suggestions under $500

i also dont want a headboard that is realy low… some of them I have seen , it looks like if you have your pillows propoed ip against the back, the pillow is higher than the headboard. I would imagine your head is then agaist the wall if leaning back(?) do not want that

With the height of your nighstands and the curves in all of your furniture pieces, I like this one. Look into its dimensions though and tape out its size/shape on the wall.

I would just do a nice tall headboard with your furniture and not a whole bed.

Just be aware that you can stain upholstered headboards with body oils/sweat if you sit in bed to read. Always use pillows behind you. My son showered every night and he still stained his linen upholstered headboard. When it became a guest bedroom I had the headboard reupholstered in an indoor/outdoor fabric so it wouldn't stain so easily and it could be cleaned.

If your goal is to replace your other furniture over time get the bed you love. Then pick away at the replacement. Dont match the new bed to furniture you plan to remove

Thanks chispa . Issue with jjst a headboard is then i have to ise a bedskirt to hide the frame / rails which i am not too mich a fan of. I have had bedskirts in the past and they were a chore to keep clean ; picked up dust, so much fabrc…. I dont know; that was years ago. I didn't need one; as it was used with this bed I still have, but they were in style and came with the Wamsutta ” bed in a bag ”collection ( remember those?? LOL)

Is there any other option when using just a headboard beside a bedskirt to hide the frame?

westCoastHopeful no, i will not be replacing the rest if this furniture any time soon. Too many other financial priorities. And if circumstances change and we can afford to do so; I will just get rid of whatever bed I replace this one with; as it is not going to be a large investment right now ( under $500) ; it would have served its purpose.

Okay if your plan is to keep the furniture I agree with whoever said just get a headboard then.

I have just a headboard, that is not attached to my adjustable bed. I solved the bedskirt dilemma, by having a fitted long bedspread made by Calico Corner.

Like this teal one, but mine goes to the floor, so no bedskirt.

You can find long bedspreads if you search online and carefully look at the measurements.

Thanks chispa. That is a good solution you came up with for yourself. As for bedding , I plrefer a duvet cover- easy to take off for frequesnt washing, quick to dry, easy ro change up color or pattern etc.

i did look ar headboards after your suggestion and many were just as expensive or even would be more than an upholstered bed once i add in the bed frame cost. Not seeing any that i would consider yet. i will keep looking. I did find another upholstered bed that was nice without a high footboard.

We have one very much like this and love it. Have never had an issue with the upholstered bed frame.

Box springs are so personal. Our bed doesnt require one but my husband prefers it so we actually got one.

That is good to know. we have one currently and i have never used a bed without one. I am just worried that if I use it with a bed frame that states no box spring required; i would break the bed frame If its just a preference and no damage would occur, than thats reassuring. thank you WestCoast Hopeful!

If it isn’t needed there will be far more slats, often wood, to distribute the weight.

I also found these 2 brushed nickel chandeliers for under $100! I those may be pretty and give better light than i currently have . so i have 2 beds and possibly 2 lights to decide 🤔

Your bedside tables look really oversized. I hear you when you say there is a budget in play but I'd choose a bed you love and I'd look on Facebook Marketplace for some bedside tables that are smaller that would work well with the new bed. While you're on Marketplace see if you can find some new lamps for the bedside tables as well. Your current lamps might work with the large scale of the current bedside tables but I think they will look oversized on any other furniture choices.

Do you use the arm chairs? They look a little out of place IMO. Could you get rid of the chairs (assuming they aren't used) and move the armoire over into that space or the smaller mirrored vanity could move. The room feels cramped with a lot of oversized furniture.

You could consider painting the wooden furniture maybe charcoal or black - it would look lovely with the light coloured headboards you're showing as inspiration. And maybe a nice rug to go under the bed (see how many of the beds you've shown have a rug underneath?

Then a paint colour to coordinate with bedding or the rug if it has some colour in it.

Another thing to consider is repositioning the furniture. Could the bed change places with the big mirrored dresser? Will that dresser (without the mirror) fit in the space where the two armchairs are? Just changing it up may make all of it feel a bit less cramped.
