Range hood colour change

last month

Would love another opinion on whether we should paint the range hood and area above to match the island in benjamin moore’s Soot? or leave as is? I’m

worried it may be too dramatic but like that it will give attention to the cathedral ceiling

Have tried just taping some dark colored fabric or paper on there to see. I find the wall busy with the shelving but maybe the paint could work, maybe just the ledge

Lose the shelves, and paint the WALL "soot" instead of the hood....... bottom trim on hood, maybe yes, soot on that as well. Do the wall first.

See if you can REDUCE counter top small appliance clutter, and move the sconces from over the windows, to sides of each window after you disappear those shelves

Admittedly, I am very OVER this floating shelf thing: ) A much overused fad of the past decade.

Do you have a backguard on the cook top, does not look so from the pic. That backsplash will be destroyed in no time without one as it looks awful close..

It’s personal but i prefer it light and airy, but I generally don’t like high contrast against cabinets when the wall is smaller or awkwardly shaped

    Would suggest leaving as is

Have you considered leaving everything as is but bring in some color and pattern in the form of window treatments for those two windows?

I like it as is. I also wouldn’t take things off the counter as I assume you use them. I don’t see it as clutter but items used often. Lovely space. I do agree that the woven shades would look nice

I'm all for the drama. Maybe paint the hood or consider painting the wall!

    Good luck!

    Or even more color

to see the bottom trim of the hood in Soot

This creates a harsh horizontal line and IMO I would not recommend

Here it is with the entire hood in Soot

Again this overwhelms the eye IMO

Last here is the back wall Painted Soot

Again my personal recommendation is to bring in some roman shades in a fabric you love and leave everything else the same except maybe lose the HOME signage on the hood.

    Totally agree with Jans assessment.
The open shelves look cluttery and are dust and grease magnets...open shelves work best in restaurant kitchens where there is a constant movement of dishware and wipe down is ongoing.
The lamp /window vignette is also too "stacky"....move the lamps further out past the frames.
Lose the "home" sign...it is a favorite stager item, but you have absolutely no need to label your interior unless it is to guide guests to the powder room.duh.
Of course,I envy the generous space you have to enjoy cooking, but why not elevate the vibe by eschewing the trite and commonplace?

Wow!! thank you everyone for your input and great ideas! I agree the HOME sign has got to go and the shelves will stay but I will declutter more. I love the dark wall and i also agree the full rangehood would be too much now that ive seen the mock up I also Love the wood trim idea on the hood too which i had thought of but wasnt sure about so these mockups are fabulous!! I also like the blinds in a different fabric other than white but I have white on all of my other windows and its a very open concept space so shouldnt they all match in colour? Thank you everyone again! Grateful for your help with this!
