If it matters to you, pendants over the Island are on the way out. Why not put in recessed lights over the Island?

You need more than pendants. There's a paucity of correctly placed recessed lights and under cabinet lights as well. That is why it is a "dark" space.

Yes, fix ALL of the lighting issues. I can't believe that they have that few recessed in there!

Definitely a good call out. Not sure why the builder didn’t put any around the island as well at least.

I think your kitchen looks beautiful without pendants. A task-oriented dimmable recessed lighting plan could be a good solution.
