Range hood suggestions

He'll Everyone, I'm looking for some suggestions on what to do here. I wanted to move the refrigerator next to the stove. In order to do the I had to take down a monster of an old hood. I have to install a new hood. I was thinking of installing a bulkhead/soffit along the top to conceal the ductwork. The vent can't be moved, and the walls are plaster. The ceiling is 10 ft. The cabinets on the left will be moved over to the wall, right side of the door. I will have to build a soffit for them. I'm just not sure how it will look. Does it have to match the depth of the existing soffit? Where do I stop at end of wall or around to existing where cabinets are?

C’mon @BeverlyFLADeziner. Over the range microwaves are the worst kind of ventilation. Since the OP had a real vent hood originally, why not get another, one less ”hulking”?

I live in Michigan and have a gas stove. I'm required to have it vented to the outside. I want to install a new range hood. Problem is, the ductwork would have to be enclosed somehow. I'm thinking a soffit/bulkhead is my only option to do this. I'm just not sure if I should go all the way around the ceiling and connect it to the existing soffit that is above the cabinet that I'm moving. Or rip that out and end it at the corner of the wall.

WHY do you want to create such a dysfunctional layout as the fridge next to the range. Start over at the beginning. You need landing space next to a range, and the fridge needs to not be scorched by the heat of the range, as your starting point.

I agree about room between refrigerator and stove, I would love that however the room is 12x13 with 3 doors and a window above the sink. The refrigerator was to the right of where it is now. That door you see in the photo leads to the bathroom. You could only open it up halfway due to refrigerator in the way. Across from the refrigerator are two doorways, with a space of 53 inches between the doors. I have a table there that is rectangler which allows me to use the end as if it were an island of sorts. Options are very limited in this kitchen.

A floor plan with dimensions may help us help you with options as what you are showing is really a poor option at best.
