We’re putting new flooring in our kitchen. We like tile but are struggling to find a color and pattern that completments our granite countertops and backsplash. Any suggestions?

What is the flooring in the REST of your home? Is there a reason it must be tile? Is the room open to other spaces, and if so what spaces, and how open?

I ask as tile is harder on your back,,,,,,,far less forgiving if you drop something, Colder to bare feet, unless you WANT that.

What is the actual granite,,,,,and it could be my monitor, but the existing flooring is Vinyl? or it is a tile?

Come back with some more context, and more angles of the kitchen and what SURROUNDS the kitchen, Add jpegs in a comment box below this comment

Changing tile or adding new floor in the kitchen is a big job so I agree why tile and what are the other floors in the home. First all that old tile will need to be removed so while you are at it why not match the flooring next to this space

Beiges are hard. I would search for a porcelain limestone or travertine and see if any of those come close. I would use larger scale rectangular tiles instead of the squares you have now.

What is the flooring in the rooms next to the kitchen?

I will try to add more pictures later today. We haven’t moved yet and got snow this morning. The current floor is linolem, which continues through the mud-room and half bath. It is bordering hardwood (i think walnut) in the dinning room and foyer entrances and dark carpet in the tv room that we qre replacing with a lighter berber. The space tends to be dark, so we are putting a lighter color on the walls to replace the dark beige in addition to the lighter carpet.

STOP now and wait until you have lived there for at last 3-6 months and honestly from what I can see of the kitchen the flooring might not be the only issue. All one type of flooring and color in all the main living spaces is the ideal and wall to carpet is just plain yucky always.

I know that you're excited to make changes in your new home - however, it would be best to try to unify the flooring as much as possible vs. having tile/hardwood/carpet.

Please add more photos as requested by Jan - I am wondering whether you actually have walnut hardwood flooring in your home. It seems odd to have such an expensive wood flooring paired with sheet linoleum in the kitchen/mudroom/powder room. It would be best to find one flooring for all of the spaces.

If I was extending hardwood every where except for the kitchen/mudroom/powder room - I would install limestone:

or if you are worried about the upkeep of limestone, you could use travertine:

I like natural stone over porcelain/ceramic - however, you could find a limestone porcelain tile.

I would want to replace the current backsplash - it's busy - and so is the countertop. Also, it looks very yellow in the photo. I would do a backsplash similar in color to the one shown in the above kitchen (not the part behind the range).

My first preference would be hardwood for the entire house - except for the mudroom (I have charcoal slate from Brazil in a 4 x 10 size - herringbone pattern - in my mudroom/laundry room combo - it's very durable). You could do tile in the kitchen/powder room/mudroom - however, tile is harder to stand on while cooking a large meal. I've always had hardwood in my kitchen (and in my powder room) - and I've never regretted it.
