best front loader washing machine for 2nd Floor recommendation

last month

We used a Bosch Nexxt front loader for the past 20 years which never worked well on our second floor location. We have 24" truss construction with 3/4" plywood flooring. Enforcing the floor is not really an option as the laundry area is somewhat coma pct and hitter several trusses without removing walls would be difficult.

We added rubber pads to the Bosch to make it usebale. Also, always click reduced spin.

What would be my best choice to minimize vibration? Also eliminating shaking in adjecant rooms.

Not really sure what technology really can help. All front loaders including my 20 year old Bosch claim and do load balancing. But in my case this is not enough

Is there only room for a compact washer (e.g., Bosch, Miele) or is there room for a full-size washer (27" wide or more). Better yet, measure and report the width and depth of the washer space.

both washer and dryer are 27" wide each - with about 5" in total gaps left, right middle

I believe only Electrolux offers a "Second Floor Guarantee".

I can't say how it will work in your situation as mine are in the basement on concrete flooring.

I have the WaveTouch model and on the final spin, it tries to get the balance very close to perfect (which sometimes can take a little while, from 5-10-15 minutes).

It sill can be loud because it's never perfectly balanced.

On my washer, when it goes into the 1300 RPM speed spin, if it starts vibrating too much it will back down the speed.

I really like my Electroux set. They are 10 years old.

Thanks. interesting. LG's appear to claim also to be low vibration.

do you know whether your apartment building has concrete floors over plywood or just plywood? Either way, looks like the LG could be a good choice. Also like your metal pan. I currnelty have a plastic one. I wonder whether the metal pan further helps to stabilize the floor.

I wish there was such a test with US models.

Even better on a second floor construction type

In CR's tests, the Maytag MHW6630HW earned the highest score (5/5) for vibration but it's performance didn't earn it a Recommended rating.

The Recommended LG WM4000HWA and Electrolux ELFW7637AT might be better choices though their vibration scores were only 4/5. The LG was quieter and has a higher predicted reliability but the Electrolux was gentler on clothes.

@wdccruise thanks. I subscribed to CR now. Interesting that they did not test any Bosch... Also, many washers appear to the 4 out 5 on vibration. Wondering if newer machines simply figured out to make front loaders in US market

Select Compact washers instead of Front Load washers. You'll find Bosch washers there.

@wdccruise thanks. Well, it looks like Bosch now only offers compact size.

Interesting that CR rates the LG WM8900HBA slightly lower than the WM4000HWA although the WM8900HBA has one sub-rating higher, maybe the factor price

CR doesn't consider price in its ranking. Note that the LG WM8900HBA is 29" wide.

I ended up getting the LG WM4000HWA. It creates certainly less vibrations than the Bosch that we were replacing. For the first time we can actually use max spin. At max spin a vibration is felt in nearby areas (floor). But not shaking the house.

I will experiment with a bit reduced spin. Potentially, also experiment again with rubber feet/pads. Never sure if such feet actually dampen or just make the machine more spin since it is no on a softer support.

The only downside is the noise of the water inlet. I think the LG does it more frequent than the Bosch. In any case it is louder. Might be the hose, less filter screens,... Not sure what to try there.

    >>" The only downside is the noise of the water inlet. . . Not sure what to try there. "<<

LG washing machines have had a reputation for causing "water hammer noise" (banging pipes) because of how quickly their water inlet valves open and close. Have you looked into getting some water hammer arresters? Available at most hardware stores, they screw in between the faucet and the hose and act like shock absorbers.

I have not. I don't hear a hammer noise. Just the the water running noise.
