finished basement, no windows, low ceiling

We have a finished basement that has many functions; office, tv/couch area, workout, and storage. It’s open plan and I’m not sure what color to paint it and how to arrange the rugs. There are no windows and very low ceilings, like 7ft.
We like light wood, and soft neutral colors
