IMO the same as the hood too many colors are never a good choice or if not the same as the hood I guess the same as the appliances. Sure hop that is not your actual kitchen since those base cabinets shold be drawers and the fridge should be counter depth and IMO not black but that is just me. Waht are your counters ? IMHO 2 toned kitchens are already dated but then so are black appliances .

I agree with Patricia, there’s no way to add a new color to that space without it looking accidental. Your scheme is black and white and wood. If you want navy in there, think accessories, but I’m not sure i’d do that either.

For accessories, I like to play the Le Creuset game in new spaces. It boils down to, ”what color(s) dutch oven do I want to see on the stove?” In that space I’d go for Flame Dorèe or Kiwi (retired color). If it had to be blue, possibly Carribean, but navy is too close to black to really work well in the space. Look at Nuit and Licorice below. They don’t elevate each other.

@Patricia Colwell Consulting this is just a mock up, the base cabinets will be drawers and refrigerator is counter depth! if you had to decide would you recommend the hood be white or matching to the island? thank you

If this is a picture of your home, the color scheme is not just the kitchen, but also the second floor railing and furniture. Black, White, wood for warmth and the gold for an accent.

Changing to black hardware will be too much black and the gold provides relief from the black and white.

I would probably not use wood for the hood. It does go with the floors, but it feels chunky, unbalanced and lonely.

Something like this may work in your space with the black appliances: Wood trim on the hood, mid tone gray island and wood chairs with a few wood accents.

You will notice when others use a wood hood they are bringing in a wood island and some wood shelving. It isn't just a wood hood hanging out all by itself.

Some people like a statement vent hood. I like them to disappear because I want the eye to be drawn to tile and art, and most kitchens have 8’ ceilings - I think a grand hood looks a little silly in those spaces. You have the height to make either look good. I’d go white, but I think the key for you is figuring out what you like. There’s nothing wrong with a statement hood. Search for kitchens that do both and see which you respond to.

@Jennifer Hogan thank you so much this is very helpful! we actually asked about a hood similar to yours w the small piece of stained trim, unfortunately has to be a solid color

In the space you show ( is it close or exactly yours) i would do a white hood / very simple. i would get interior lighting for the glass door cab on the far right… i would plan for pendants over island and think about what value of focal interest could be placed at the backsplash… maybe a tad more than the tile shown. these spots will help the eye move around instead of getting sole focus from hood and hulky black fridge over to the side. Contrarian perhaps but i might actually keep island cabs same as perimeter.. i find the overall space only medium sized and continuity w cab color might work well .. you can go warmer white all over w good results .. wood stools makes more sense / good luck .

Remember that the kitchen is part of the whole home and has to fit with the rest of the home.

If you are going to add the wood to the hood, then add wood to make it feel balanced.

These are really rough alterations done in excel - not a graphics program, but may give you some idea what I am talking about.

I wouldn’t do black hardware - I like the ones in the mock up, but maybe knobs on the uppers. I prefer the wood island and hood the same colour as the uppers.

Difficult decisions and perhaps step back to consider the overall effect of your choices. Try pulling the space together by how/where you inject different elements, ie: if you want a black island, just use complementary lighting. Black hardware, fridge and microwave only disrupts the space visually and if budget allows, a panelled fridge would create an uninterrupted flow - see below. On that note, consider a hood that relates to the cabinetry and let the backsplash be the focal point.

If you want wood to create more warmth, use on the island (and hood if you like). Personally, I’m aim for a nice flow instead.

You should also be considering the adjoining spaces and how they will work together.

"this is the model home is this preferred over white"

There is no preferred color scheme. What do you like? Or do you just want to follow the latest Instagram trend and have the same kitchen as everyone else?

In the model home, that contrasting crown above the cabinets is awful! That was something that we saw in the late 1990's and it wasn't a good look back then either! It looks best when the crown matches the cabinets they are attached to.

Also with the fridge right next to the ovens, there is a high probability that you will end up with a dent on the left door of the fridge.

My vote is always for simplicity since it ages really well, but it takes a lot of discipline
