What would you do with this room next to the kitchen?

We will be updating the kitchen as well, just trying to figure out what to do with this room. We have a family room already, part of this room needs to be a dining area. Photos are from when we bought the house, so not our furnishings.

    A whole-house floor plan would help us as the photographs don't give us the size of the room. Whole-house because we need to see how things flow. Then, a detailed floor plan of the room in question and also of the adjoining kitchen.

    Without seeing the meaurments or whole house plan this area seems to be where one places the baby grand piano or large house plants or free standing artwork.

    We don't see the house floor plan but it seems like a large room, perhaps it's meant to be a family room?

    You draw and measure ALL of this when you move in. and before you "update " a kitchen.

    Every wall, window , opening , door to outside ? Every. one of them has a domension, in feet and inches: ) Graph paper is fine.

    You also show the family room, which is where?

    You certainly do not need two similar dining areas within close proximity, ( staged ) and just because someone hung a light in a space, does not dictate dining.......

    Draw and MEASURE all below

    Thanks all! i have added a basic layout but will measure later today! The front room labeled as living room has a large fireplace so we would like to use it as our family room. The area labeled as dining and where the staged small table is is very small so not usable for us as a dining area. The area labeled as family room is the room I would like suggestions on- part of it will need to be a dining area, the table we have is a large 6 person table. Trying to figure out what to fill the rest of the space with. Thank you!

    We understand..^^

    We need EVERY solid wall, window opening, in the above...: ) pictured "floor plan" and I use the quotes, because in current state, it is anything BUT a floor a floor plan.....it at best, EXTREMELY loose layout

    I think you need to stop and get the kitchen design done forst then see what you want for that space . It is an odd space but no real idea of any of the spaces size wise so a to scale plan of that whole space every wall and every measurement clearly marked use graph paper to make a bit easier then post here in jpeg format in a comment. I see supporting wall so the kitchen is going to have limitations for sure and that one DR space is too small to cal a DR so then that larger space is the DR then the smaller space is the only issue but that kitchen is the priority to get designed .

    Enclose the dining room space leaving a hallway between it and the kitchen. Design the new tiny room as a pantry or coat closet or office. whatever you need. With that new wall and hallway, you now have separation between the two living rooms. Now you set up this room as a dining room and formal living room combination.

    I would agree too many rooms! You said update the kitchen. What does that mean? Seems to me you have extra footage some to add to the kitchen and some a great dining area. That way this too tiny space can just go away.

    That large space will be a wonderful dining area, and add one or two comfortable chairs, not too big, or rocking chairs! at opposite end from the outside door, near the kitchen. (in our last house I had a rocking chair in the corner of the dining el, and it was perfect for watching the kids in the backyard, I could see out the front window, keep tabs on whatever was cooking in the kitchen, and hear any crashes from the playroom.);

    The current kitchen dining space will get incorporated into the kitchen, and hold a pantry, and be the walking space from family room the dining room and to the back door.

    We are looking at options for the kitchen and getting quotes on a full remodel or possibly paint the cabinets and do new counters, backsplash, appliances etc
