Should I get a custom built entertainment center

Im considering having an entertainment center built downstairs. I have included a sketch. Considering white cabinets with a wood stained top. What do you think?

If it were me, I’d skip the upper shelves - I feel like they could seem a bit overbearing in the room - it also limits the TV size you can have down there

No reason for custom and for sure no shelving filled with STUFF. Go to Ikea look at Besta if youwant a nicer TV stand and a bit of storage

I'd spend the money elsewhere, that spot already feels tight with the door and the stairwell landing and the middle wall and the soffits.
I'd buy a long narrow console with doors if you need a spot for storage. Then you'll have room on it for a lamp and a couple of accessories.

I feel like the age of the huge entertainment centers is over. A built in is very limiting. Making a forever decision that will inhibit future choices seems not a good choice. If you buy IKEA like modular pieces they can be moved around and repurposed as TVs change and your needs for that room change. Furniture can be moved with you.

Those TV wall units have hit their 'sell by date'.

You could have a series of base cabinets and simply the screen mounted above.

If you need more storage you can easily assemble a group of items like you see below by using the BESTA series from IKEA.

Not sure I would spend money on a built-in in the basement. You can pair 2, 3 or 4 cabinets to make a long console and then have space above for a large TV.

I did a built-in, but it is in my main living space around 17' W x 10' H. It has space for a 75" TV and shelving for collected/inherited items I already owned and wanted to display. It was expensive ($20K in 2022) and I didn't use any fancy wood.

I didn't need a bigger TV in this space, as we have a 100" TV in a second living/media room on the same level.

No............I'm not even sure you have the best arrangement for everything, including tv

You could draw and measure entire space,... and know for sure. with everything clearly noted...

Walls, stair, storage area,,,,all of it with dimensions.

Agree with Jan, the space looks awkward and uncomfortable. Custom built in as you described is very expensive. Looks like adjacent wall to the left of TV might be a better choice for TV?.

I don't have the dimensions of your room but it seems you'd have a better furniture layout with the TV on the wall on the left not at the end of the room. As suggest, draw a floor plan showing all dimensions.

The furniture does seem a bit awkwardly placed. Will suggest you rethink the placement even before getting a custom build cabinetry unit.

I will provide a floorplan with layout and dimensions. Thank you all

Love the rug but not the furniture layout or the wall color. You need a wall color that makes the flooring look less gray and a more natural wood tone.
