If that is the wall you see looking into this space, I would Board & Batten or Bead Board the wall and hang a framed piece. Add another upper over the machine 24" deep (closet depth so you can hang out of site)

Google "fold down hanger rack" for various options that can be easily stowed when not in use, price range $10-$100. If you want a visible rack, you can attach a towel bar to your ceiling studs.

If it is just for a short time get a fold away one

I bought an over-the-door fold down drying rack for my laundry room, and it works well for me - but I'm not sure from your description if you have a door or not.
