Entryway - Paint or Wallpaper?

We’re moving into our new space and I’m excited to get started on the entrance way. It is in need of an update paint wise. I’ve included a picture of the exterior so you can see what you’re walking into.

When you walk into the entry way, there is a grand office on the left and a large formal dining room on the right. Once through the entry you walk into the main living area with a large rock fireplace and wood ceiling beams…so, I’m trying to decide

A) have to entry way be fairly neutral and have the formal dining room have a bold, gorgeous wallpaper as a focal point

B) have the entrance way have a stunning wallpaper and the dining room be a bit more relaxed.

Either way, I need recommendation for this entrance to bring the wall into this century.

The furnishings are not ours - these are prints from the sale brochure.

Thanks!

Beautiful entry proportions—you can make this feel current without fighting the architecture.

I’d choose option A: keep the entry more neutral, and let the dining room carry the bolder wallpaper moment.

    Why:
    - Entry is a transition zone you’ll see from multiple angles
    - A calmer backdrop makes the beams/fireplace beyond feel intentional
    - You can still add character with texture (limewash-style paint, subtle plaster look, or a soft grasscloth)

    Quick formula:
    1) Entry walls: warm off-white/greige with depth (not stark white)
    2) Trim + doors: same color, 1 sheen higher for a tailored look
    3) Dining room: statement wallpaper in a refined pattern + muted tones

That gives you drama where guests pause (dining) and calm where people flow (entry).

Lorenzo_greco24 - I tend to agree. Thank you. I wouldn't do a stark white either, the floors are a beautiful rich brown and the only outside light is coming from the living room it leads to, otherwise there is no other light coming into that space. This gave me good confidence on my decision! Any thoughts on a good white to try out? I'm heading to the paint store this week.

Beverly - I do love battan however there is already wainscotting on the hallways and walls leading to the entrance and I fear it might be too much. It also curves upwards the ceiling. Thank you though.

Any thoughts on style of rug in that area? I'd like to get something soon to protect the floors but am torn on style.

Maybe a deep color depending on the colors in your rug.

Congrats on your new home! I too would look to go neutral in the foyer which could be a soft subtle white or even a soft color depending on what is done with the adjoining rooms. If you like the trim white already in place, find out what shade/brand that is so it can be considered. If budget allows, consider updating the chandelier. Consider what is beyond the foyer (straight ahead view) to compliment as well.

Depending on the color scheme for the adjoining rooms, I would look at ivories. White can feel stark next to a dark dining room. Bring home ivory paint samples when considering the two other rooms.

My favorite color in the entryway is that dark color like is that charcoal or something that looks really nice shows off the Arches and the door frames and the candy like a jewel box! That light color I like it but I don't know the other one made more of an impression on me if you go to light your arch might disappear more especially with the white trim you could pick a color from the break outside bring it into the entry if it's that orange is your yellow leash color you could pick it and see if that makes you happy thanks bringing in sunshine though but I did like the dark drama one better but I don't have that kind of stunning entryway as you have there I love archways
