"Fern" is a bit of a misnomer as this plant is related to asparagus and not a fern at all. Good container or house plant in colder zones and somewhat rampant/aggressive in warmer zones.

"Asparagus"? That is interesting.

This particular residential garden is in a very cold weather climate. So given the size of the plant I see I am thinking they bring it inside in the winter?

Be aware that they have small thorns along the stems.

I also think this is a wonderful plant. It was easy to find when I was down in Florida, but around here it's hit or miss, so I settled on buying a tiny starter plant and it's coming along. I put it outdoors for the summer and for the winter it comes in and gets watered maybe once a month, so it kind of stays dormant since my conditions aren't that great for it. If it starts yellowing and dropping needles it's probably too dry.

Also the foxtail asparagus fern is A. densiflorus, most likely 'Meyerii'. A. aetheopicus is a more sprawling thing, seeds around in more tropical areas, and doesn't have the 'foxtail' look... but still nice enough as a filler/spiller.

And lastly, if you ever see the variegated form, snap it up! It's very cool, and far out of my price range on the two times I've seen it for sale.
