I’m assuming that you are leaving the fireplace intact? If so, I would do a few things. I would paint the firebox , all of it, in black, have a new glass enclosure installed & perhaps fill the base with fireglass or ? As far as tile is concerned, I’ve always liked Pratt & Larson’s beautiful handmade tile. You propbably don’t need that much if you’re leaving the footprint as is. I’ve made some assumptions here of course.

You can always outfit the hearth with a series of candles or flamelss candles to accessorize the fireplace. IMO I don't see any reason to do anything with the existing tile on the hearth. It doesn't make much of a statement and if you start to remove it you'll likely have to deal with the step up. All expensive changes.

Calling your wall paint color white is being generous IMO. It reminds me of the FLESH color in the Crayon box. As White paint colors go, it wouldn't me my choice.

With the fireplace being really off-centre I think it's fine leaving the existing tiles with your new paint colour.

I guess leaving the tile if I repaint is a good idea. It’s probably not worth the cost of replacing. The color Casa Blanca is most definitely not flesh color. We already have it on the walls in other rooms. (Also, I never called it white.)

I like that Casa Blanca color. It reminds me of BM Ivory Tusk(main color in my upstairs).

Close it off acyually even better remove it but closed of will work . Then it just becomes a wall to hang art on or whatever and while you are at it get rid of that spindly shelving too and then arranging the space can even be different

Will suggest your frame over the fireplace and install gyp. board to match. Will also suggest that you remove the hearth. That should be doable without too much expense and it shouldn't affect the existing chimney.

Suggest removing the tile surround, extend/reface the hearth, cover with Venetian plaster, and add some wood. Idea below, but in reverse. Be sure though to consider your furniture/style, as I think that’s more important than your home’s age.
