Miele Service is who I've talked to over the years. Well, twice. They have been happy to answer.

I just found a settings menu and set the rinse aide level to 0 so I can run the load of dirty dishes that’s in there now without it releasing any of the fluid.

Then I can empty the dishes in the morning and figure out what to do from there.

Maybe I can order an extractor like this can pull most of the fluid out after it gets shipped in a few days.

Otherwise, I may need to pay for a service call to get the rinse aid reservoir replaced.

Steps to Empty and Clean the Dispenser:

• Remove Content: Use a turkey baster, syringe, or spray bottle tube to pump out the existing rinse aid or incorrect liquid (like detergent).
• Flush the Container: Fill the empty compartment with clean water and pump it out again.
• Repeat: Repeat the filling and pumping process until the liquid comes out clear.
• Dry: Wipe the compartment and allow it to dry if necessary

I tried a spray bottle tube to drain and refill with tap water at least 50 times, but there is an endless supply of sudsy water pulled that still smells like the cleaner.

This makes me think the dispenser tank is deeper in the door than the tube reaches and it is just diluting it a little bit instead of fully flushing it out.

Oh, I’m sorry. My Whirlpool does not hold that much. You may have to give in and get a repairman to replace the tank. Unless you can get something to reach the bottom?

You'll be provided instructions for replacing the dispenser but you don't have to do that. Just remove the dispenser from the dishwasher, repeatedly run water into it and dump it out until the water dumped out is clear. Then reinstall the dispenser in the dishwasher.

I’d like to see if I can find a diagram of what the rinse aid container looks like in the door and maybe get a thinner and longer tube that can be fished through to the bottom of the tank.

Otherwise, I can probably run 25 empty quick cycles with rinse aid set at max level to use it up within a couple of days.

The rinse-aid dispenser is part of a combi-dispenser which includes both the rinse-aid and detergent dispensers. You're expecting it to be deep. It isn't as shown in the photos.

I called Miele and their suggestion was to try to sop up the liquid by inserting a paper towel.

That is extremely awkward due to the small size of the opening. It’s possible pieces of the towel would break off and cause a worse problem.

Using the spray bottle tube seemed more effective, but it still did not remove enough of the liquid to even trigger the refill rinse aid warning.

For now, I’m just running repeated quick cycles.

Does anyone know if there is a quicker way to skip to a cycle that forces rinse aide to be used up? I thought of using the rinse and hold cycle, but that cycle probably doesn’t trigger use of rinse aide.

How about holding the door at an angle and squirting water into the dispenser, causing it to overflow and the liquid to run down the door into the tub?
