We used to build snowmen all the time when I was younger.

It's 62 here today - so, no snowmen. However, who knows what will happen in the next week - could have a blizzard! Weather switches so quickly here in the winter!

Do kids in snow country still builld snow forts? That was our favorite thing to do growing up in NH. Kind of an igloo.

I wish we had gotten enough snow to build a snowman with the grandchildren! Those you shared are so much fun.

We used to build snow forts at the top of the driveway where the plow piled up the snow. Gave us a great Headstart.

We definitely built snow forts and then had snowball battles with each other. We built snowmen and sledded. I also remember how my dog loved the snow and would go bounding through it.

Someone on my street left their dog off leash as they walked and that dog was having the best day ever. Our street is safe for that if the dog comes when called, although everyone usually keeps their dog leashed.

Today the snow is ice covered or I would have built my own snowman.

Ah, memories! Back in the early 1950s my parents (both!) built us an true igloo, with the roof curved and fitted as it is supposed to, and a neat little entrance tunnel just our size. Wish there was a photo of it, but it lives in my memory. I'm the oldest of five, and there are no others of us who were alive then to have this memory since my brother died 18 months ago.

After the Blizzard of 1978, my DH dug a lengthy maze all around our yard for the boys (6 & 3). I do have photos of that -- so funny to see the younger one shorter than the sides of the maze being led by his brother. =)

@jojoco - that is EXACTLY what me and my sisters did when we were young! The plow made huge piles of snow on each side of the end of the driveway - definitely a great start to creating a big igloo!

I should have taken a picture of the snow fort/ wall the neighborhood kids built from our last snow the end of January. They cut perfect blocks and assembled them into quite a nice wall.

In Ohio when I was grade school age early 1950’s we packed the snow down to make an intricate maze. My brother and I had the bright idea to pour water on it. We invited the neighborhood and played ” duck duck goose” til Patty fell and ended up with a ” green twig” break in her wrist. That was the rnd of our fun. c

When my brother was about 4 years old, my grandfather and neighbor helped him built a snow man. They handed him a carrot and he stuck it in the crotch thinking that was where it belonged. My grandfather was mortified.

Ded - and I guess in the summer we can find that fellow down the shore creating elaborate sand castles complete with moats and more dragons. And of course I would be sitting near by with a bucket and a shovel and crafting mole hills.

I love seeing all the snowmen!

I used to have a neighbor who would create a beach scene with snowmen sitting on folding chairs, beach balls and umbrella.

Makes me wish I’d gotten out and been creative, but brrr.

Maire, my dad would build elaborate sand castles with ramps for balls to roll along. The ball would go in and out and around. Now I excel at drip castles, if I make it to the beach at all. I can barely get out of a beach chair.

Oh how neat is that! What a great memory of your Dad. Growing up on the other side of PA I never went to the Jersey shore. We did vacation in Ocean City Maryland a few times. When we were a little older they bought a second house on Deep Creek Lake in Maryland and we'd spend our summers there.

My neighbors built a colorful igloo in their yard. Their children helped out by hauling the ice blocks to the front yard on their sleds. They also thought to add some chairs and table made out of ice block. It took them 5 days and 200 block of ice to make their 4’x6’ igloo.

maire_cate, The neighbors actually built that igloo during the week of Jan. 25th. It was going strong until we had an unusual string of 50+ degrees Feb, 14th through the 19th.

Normally temperatures here are below freezing through the end of February. It was great that they built the igloo in their front yard so everyone could enjoy seeing it. dedtired, it truly did look like stained glass. I hope they build another igloo next winter.

I envy all of you getting winter weather in winter. We’ve been having 80+ degree days and that’s just not cool (no pun intended).

Ded! Spring is on the way. I have daffodils coming up and in the mail today I received coupons for Rita's - opening March 1st.

For those unfamiliar with Rita's - it's a local chain that sells various flavors of Italian ice (or if you're around Philly it is called Water Ice). It is smoother than a snow cone or shaved ice and it is made with real fruit flavoring, water and sugar. It's based on the semi-frozen Italian granita. DH's birthday is in March and I always pick up his favorite flavor for dessert.

Actually its called wooder ice.😉 Woo hoo, Rita’s, the first bloom of spring.
