Ideas for this 2nd floor balcony?

We have this second floor balcony on our house and it perpetually had problems with leaking or other damage. We have had it fixed 3 times now, and truthfully we dont really use it. We are now considering how we can cover it. One idea is to make it a sunroom or a partially enclosed balcony - but I am having trouble imagining what that would look like from the back of the house. Any suggestions? Basically we want to keep it protected from rain and snow, and perhaps make it a bit more usable than it is now. TIA!

If you hope for no additional problems frpm this area it should have been turned back into a roof with a pitch.

Oh interesting.we thought that we could achieve that with a roof (pitched) over it. Could you share why that wouldn't work too? Not my area of expertise...

Adding a roof structure will add substanial weight to the existing structure that most likely was never engineered for a roof. Meaning the entire thing would need to be ripped and rebuilt, including the ceiling structure for the first floor.. Seeing as you are having water issues already it was most likely not constructed properly from the beginning.
