It's always good to say what we are looking at. Often a closeup like you show, and an image from further back for context.

There needs to be a sufficient amount of caulk to allow it to stretch with the seasons, and a good quality caulk too. I like Big Stretch caulk.

Caulk is often applied so the bead is really small, and frequently more is wiped off. Fine when there is no movement, but that small amount of caulk splits when there is movement.

Try Big Stretch or Dynaflex 230. I've used the latter and have never seen it crack. Note that you cannot apply new caulk over old caulk. You must remove the old caulk. Use only a "drip-free" caulk gun that pulls back the plunger to stop the flow of caulk when you are not pulling on the trigger. Dynaflex tubes don't have a cap. I wrap the tip in packing tape to prevent the tip of a partially-used tube of caulk from hardening.
