I just laughed out loud at the rodeo clown mental image, bb!

I would just like to announce that I went to a Dillards for the first time today. So much inventory, unlike our similar ”mall stores” at home. And a large petite dept! I tried on about 15 things and came home with 4 new tops, 2 from the clearance section. Unlike the locals here, I will still need long sleeves back at home.

And. I picked this up for @mtnrdredux_gw.

@Funkyart do you like PACT? I get ads for them all the time and their stuff looks very comfy but I've never purchased anything. I love the dress you picked.

@jsk I havent purchased a lot from them-- just this dress and a 2 peasant tops. I think their sets are the best sellers but havent tried them yet. I ordered the dress after reading reviews that mentioned the nice shape and drape. All true!

    Sizing runs a bit large.

My biggest complaint is the limited colors. They had more colors last summer so maybe they will add more in the coming months.

I've decided that Kswl looks good in every outfit that she has shown us - and it seems like every color too. What's the secret? Because I tend to look washed out.......

Salonva - have a great trip. I was at Costco on Saturday with DS and grand daughter who was having a meltdown because she wanted some easterish candy. But she hadn't had lunch yet and DS reminded her that she'd have to wait. I could just hear myself saying the same thing to him at that age......

But we walked past those sneakers and I made a mental note to go back. So thank you for the reminder..

I came across this recc and succumbed. $54 for three and they are ... fine. No bliss yet.

More than twice the price of what I usually buy.

LOL I bought them too, a long time ago. Nothing special. I prefer my Jockey brand undies.

I have been secretly embarrassed that I wear jockey undies ... glad to hear I am not the only one! I have tried others also and I always land back on the same.

My vision issues have kept my bag purchases in check. As long as I require hiking sticks when in public, I need crossbody or sling bags .. and I have plenty of both. I have been tempted by totes (always) .. this one has been haunting me. It is neoprene so reasonably priced but I want multiples in all of my best colors (white, pink, orange, neon green ... )

It's nice to know others have underwear shame. I've been wearing Victoria's Secret (ugh) cotton bikini for a few years and just have found it to be the most comfortable least showing of the bikini underwear I've tried. I cannot stand waist bands or leg bands that dig in and I prefer something light and something that doesn't slide down as I move. (This picture is definitely not me.) I dislike this brand but I haven't been able to find others that fit just right. They're either too high or the bands are too tight and show.

KSWL’s ootd are having a good effect on me in terms of crafting a complete outfit. Met birthday Mom, 2 sisters, 1 neice for a casual lunch today. The temp is about 20 degrees warmer than it should be. I wore the chocolate brown flowy Aritzia pants, turquoise fitted T, open brown shirt that seems to match the pants, and a long string of wooden beads that I believe I was given in college. The nice girl in the coffee shop complimented the outfit. The Italian greyhound in the coffeeshop smiled.

Pre- kswl I would have worn pants and a blouse— no finishing 3rd piece. I felt very grown up. One sister had on an honest-to-god spring coat in a pretty print—- a very rare beast anymore.

I was influenced to buy these undies. The influencer swore that they do not show under leggings and other tight pants which is why I ordered a pair. She was right. They don't show. When they arrived, I thought they would be uncomfortable. They are a big higher on the bum than I usually wear but they didn't bother me at all. I'll probably order more.

FYI (and maybe TMI) they have a cotton crotch. I must have cotton or bad things happen. They also come in all cotton which I also ordered. I don't like those. They don't stay in place.

Do not buy cotton Jockeys. Mine are only a year old and the cotton has worn off in several spots on the waistband, showing the elastic.

I think that is the downfall of cotton underwear, they don't last long. @jsk. I like legs like that, do you have a link? I feel like I may want more tummy coverage though.

Jsk I have some laser cut undies from Spanx that show no lines under closely fitting pants and knit dresses. i ordered a size up though for zero compression, as there is no point imo of creating a bump a

(and visible line) between your bum and thigh because the underwear is so tight.

Lisa that is such a nice thing to say! Many times I have looked in the mirror and thought oh, that’s all right, then looked at the picture and changed my (pick one) blouse, sweater, belt or shoes! I did not appreciate there is a sort of formula to the whole process until I lost some pandemic pounds and used that as an opportunity to update … everything!

@RNmomof2 zone 5 here you go: American Eagle Undies

Almost all my underwear is all cotton and they last a good long time. I just didn't like these in all cotton.

Thanks, @kswl I will take a look at Spanx too. I do have some shaping underwear from them but as you point out they sometimes cause different issues from the ones they're solving. Never occurred to me to size up!

I’ve worn Hanky Panky brand for so long it would be hard to convert. But for a long trip a couple of years ago I did try some Fruit of the Loom cotton blend no-show from Wal Mart. I thought I might just ditch it along the way but it was so comfy I kept it.

For those who have tried PACT, I’ve been sort of interested but haven’t done much investigating. What is the length of the pants in the sets? I’ve looked at other brands and almost all have pants that are too short for me. I love Vuori and have a couple of ancient pants from there in a Long length but they don’t appear to make many in a long that also offer matching tops or jackets.

I did buy a NWT Anatomie jacket in Poshmark a few months ago. I love it, especially for spring or fall travel. Like many I tend to be cold in a plane. I bought a small b/c I like the fitted look and it was perfect. Lots of pockets that are deep enough to carry a small wallet, phone, etc.

Looking for help. I need a casual hat for London in June. I usually think of straw for summer, but London temperatures are not what I think of as summer, also my last visit to London in the summer the weather was gloomy. So I am hoping more experienced traveler can fill me in on the type of hat that is appropriate. Any ideas?

    bbstx thanked jill302
  • yesterday

jill302, would a cotton bucket hat work for you? They aren't all that flattering on me but Emily in Paris wears them and she looks really cute (of course).

    Especially with a matching coat!

Yes to a bucket hat. I had a packable quilted black one that I took to London and was so happy I did.

Jill302, I would try a woven hat that isnt straw -- or straw colored. I have this Helen Kaminski hat and I think it is little more adaptable for seasons and venues. Sorry, it is expensive but it is well made and travels well!

This is the color I have but depending on the style, they have others including brown, green and blue.

Update: The EF arch pants arrived and are a fail! I was thrilled to be able to comfortably wear a size smaller but the thrill was short lived. They look terrible on me!

I think I just need to accept that barrel pants arent working for my short legs. I have worn the lantern pants for years but now I am questioning if they ever looked good. My current pair does not -- but I blamed it on them being too big. I think it is the ballooning shape that doesnt look good!

I would think London summer means possibility of rain and would look for a lightweight waterproof bucker hat. Mine are from Barbour and Athleta.

Otherwise, I use high SPF sunscreen so I’m not carrying another thing while out and about.

I never travel with a hat. If it rains, I use an umbrella (borrowed from the hotel, usually, or purchased on the street). If it is sunny, I would wear a broad brim straw hat but that is a total PITA for travel.

This is my first time traveling with a hat. My dermatologist recommended I wear one, thinning hair. Unfortunately, bucket hats are not my friend, I should have mentioned this.

@1929Spanish-GW - Do you use a sunblock on your scalp? If yes, can you recommend a brand?

Otherwise, I will look for a hat similiar to the one @Funkyart recommended or go without.

I am trying to become a hat lover, but not there yet. Thanks to all.

Does it need to be a fashion statement? When traveling/touring I sometimes just wear a cute baseball cap. Up until a few years ago I never ever wore a hat. Not even on the beach. Now I have a packable (and inexpensive) beach hat, and several baseball caps. Some days I think the baseball cap looks cute and somedays I think it looks ridiculous. Haven't figured out why yet.

If it's raining, I will just use a jacket with a hood and umbrella.

Sorry, that was not any help at all!

    bbstx thanked jsk

@jsk - Actually a good question. No, the hat does not need to make a fashion statement. Also, it does not need to be waterproof. My waterproof coat has a nice full hood. When I travel I usually wear a wardrobe of classic pieces, so nothing too exciting but it works for almost everything.

    bbstx thanked jill302

@jill302 I don’t have that issue, but it would mean you need a hat with SPF value. most straw hats wont have that.

I also like Eric Javitas hats. they make a wide variety. I’d also check Lands End for sun blocking hats.

I wear a bucket hat in the rain, even with an umbrella. because it keeps my glasses protected.

@lisaam I'm sorry, I missed your post asking for the brand. They are Aerie (American Eagle). In case you didn't see the link I posted yesterday, here it is - AE undies

@ajuju - mine are these beach pants: Target Beach Pants

As mtn said (repeatedly :-)), they're not the highest quality but for my purposes they're good. I can probably wear them for 2 years worth of vacations (I don't live at the beach like mtn, so I really only wear them on vacay). After 2 years, I'm ready for something new anyway!

The Target Beach Pants are gauze. The hottest shirt I own is a gauze shirt from J. Crew. The very popular Aden+Anais receiving blankets were gauze and kept baby warm. I’m passing on gauze summerwear. I prefer linen

I had to laugh after the ”undies” talk here…I took laundry out of the dryer. DD had been visiting over the weekend and did some laundry before she left. Something got left behind: in MY laundry was a pair of size XS thong underwear. I sent her a pic of them and said I tried, but couldn’t get them past my ankles.

I can’t imagine wearing long pants to the beach. I always wear a dress/coverup.

    bbstx thanked Sueb20

@Sueb20 I will be shopping for those as well! I imagine light flowy pants being worn around the resort more than "on" the beach. It will be quite warm, but fair gal that I am, I need to limit my sun exposure.

@Bbtx Good to know about gauze! I will have to try the linen as well.

We have not taken a tropical vacation in so long (I prefer the mountains!) that I feel like I'm starting from scratch wardrobe-wise! Ugh - need to update bathing suits as well.

Look at the Quince wide leg linen pantsfor beach pants. I got a delivery of them today. I cannot comment on how they wash, but the ”wide leg” is not ridiculously wide; the elastic waist is wide enough to be comfortable; and the linen isn’t inordinately heavy. Plus, they come in 3 lengths, so you might be able to avoid hemming!

OOh, @bbstx, those come in great colors. I just ordered the Mariner Stripe.

So my gingham JMcL pants arrived yesterday. They are too legging-like, and they make me feel ... sausage-y.

OTOH the Gap High Rise '70s Flare Jeans in Dark wash, which arrived today I do like. Hard to see much of anything in the pic, but the flare is subtle.

This, in case there was any confusion, is the model:

    bbstx thanked mtnrdredux_gw

I ordered these wider leg, mostly cotton but with some stretch, front patch pocket jeans from Amazin’ when I saw them on one of the youtube fashion influencers I occasionally watch. They took two months to arrive so missed their winter window. But today it’s raining with a feels like temp of 45, going down to 38 by midday 🥶 Golf has been canceled and i am just having lunch with a girlfriend then spending the afternoon at home. Here they are:

Still not sure how I feel about the length. I am wearing Naot booties but they don’t look quite tall enough to prevent a break of the fabric on the front of the shoe. Do I need higher heels?

I love the color (they come in every color) but I wish I’d ordered a 4 instead of a 6 (for length and for a little “seat sag” but that may change after washing. One nice thing (I found out when I took the dogs in their long morning walk in the rain) is that my new raincoat is the same color just a shade lighter, and the brown and navy gingham lining looks great with my navy turtleneck. Apropos of our hat conversation, I wore a Tilley’s khaki bucket hat with leather trim and it all looked pretty good for a casual dogwalking ensemble 😁

adding, they are from Big A and were $49.99. The construction and finished seams are as nice as any pants I own except a few very expensive lined wool slacks. And some very old Liz Claiborne slacks whose underside hems and visible pocket edges were all trimmed with grosgrain ribbon.

    they are too long

    last modified: 43 minutes ago

That’s what I think! But the hem is too large and is actually doublesewn on the reverse, so hemming them would be a much bigger job. I do have anpair of clogs I could wear these with and will try those.

This seemed an easy way to try something longer that looked good on an actual person. I am not short (5’6”) and the boots have a 1.25” heel. I really cannot imagine wearing anything higher with such a casual trouser. I’m not sure the 4 would be that much shorter 🤷‍♀️

I always like a bigger break in my pants, unless they are a slim leg. I would wear them as is.
