Why? Because you need to light the floor up?

You want the light to go on when someone walks to the island, and you want the light to go on when the ambient light dims?

So the light goes on during the day if someone gets close to the island????? Then if the light is already on at night why would the light need to go on again when someone gets close to the island?

The lighting in the rest of the room would have to be stellar in appearance to balance out lighting the base of an island.

Here are two perfect examples of how terrible it can appear when it ends up being the focal point.

Our house is way out in the country, absolute darkness at night. The island is in the main living area and this lighting would serve as a kind of night light when someone walks into the room.

I want the light not to activate in the daytime and only come on at night when motion is detected.

Energy efficiency is very important to us as we are off-grid, 100% solar+ battery powered.

It seems you find it unattractive, we are thinking along the lines of functionality.
