We will soon have our existing red oak 1940s floors and new red oak floors refinished and stained. Please see pics of the existing floors with a sample board of the stain color we have in mind. It’s similar to our existing color but a bit less red.

What should our expectation level be that the old and new floors will be a uniform color, considering that the stain we want is similar to what we have? We don’t have a lot of confidence that our contractor will provide us with the best guidance, hence we are trying to think this through now.

Do we need to go darker than the existing floors to get it all uniform, or does it matter? Thank you.
