Since you don't have that much space I think a counter stool no back might be better. Here are 2 models, on of them is a swivel.

I'd consider the matching stools. They are sold by a wide variety of sources.

agree with moving the chairs to allow a bit more room. a simple stool with a low back to slide under the countertop when not in use, to avoid cluttering the site lines.

I would not use a black light fixture in a white cabinet space. Don't you think your stainless hood vent is a statement? Why compete with it?

@amystoller we host a lot and have company over often so yes, stools are essential!

@lisedv I like your options! Simple and contemporary. I’d love to be able to move the chairs but the legs of the table unfortunatley won’t allow.

@Lyn Nielson the table legs unfortunately will not allow the chairs to be moved. The light fixture would not be pure black- it will be partially white pendant lights too. The main den/TV room is connected, and that room has a black fireplace and accents. The black lighting for the kitchen is intentional to create flow between the two rooms.

Of course you can move the chairs. Just turn the table!

I agree with BeverlyFLADeziner that matching stools would look good.
