Mirror and lighting advice for an offset sink vanity

last month
last modified: last month

I am updating this post to reflect where my current question lies. I have a small bathroom and I am doing a 61" single sink vanity that is right justified. I am looking for design & layout advice for a mirror and lighting with this configuration. I know that backlit mirrors are an option, but don't know if that looks too hotel. I hearthat a 51-52" wide mirror would be best to span the whole sink opening and be centered (50" accomplishes this) but am having a hard time finding something I like without going custom - any suggestions?

This Gaxley Livable Mirror is 52" but I'm not sure about the shape

I undertand centering would be better aesthetically but my husband wants to use a sink and not compete with space when I'm getting ready. Two sinks in a 60" vanity leaves very little counter space. We have two very small kids and often don't have the luxury of lots of time to share the space when we are rushing to get ready. Here is an AI rendering of the vanity with a right justified sink and also the design. The room is small and it is an expansion over our garage, so the layout is dictated by where existing plumbing/electrical/HVAC could be best accessed considering a stairwell, lower floor, garage door, and need for enough space in a bedroom. Not ideal but cheaper than buying a new house for us!

In what folks probably say is a silly, unnecessesary twist...we did have both sink options plumbed but the left side is going to be capped in the event that a future owner of our house hates an offset sink. Preference problem solved.

Forget the two sinks. Two people can share a single sink, you will have more storage, more counter top .

You will then share a very large mirror, which is far more important than the absurd idea, that you both must wash a face, or wash hands , or brush teeth simultaneously.!

If you must, one step aside so one can SPIT.

    Note:

Ye I am beyond sick and tired of the JAMMING that occurs with every single one of these same scenarios. : )

The "removable" sink cover is equally nuts.

    Punctuated.

Sometimes you make trouble. Just one darn sink. Please

We know the PRO. She means the first, not the second. Just trust me on that: )

P.S. We are both correct. One sink.

One sink in the middle, not on the right, which is awkward.

And why 2 posts on this same topic?

Please center the sink !! why are you making a simple thing difficult? If that is YOUR vanity? Your faucet? Is plumbing in place?

You use one BIG mirror across the entire expanse, 2 inch frame to match vanity and go custom, or get a 48 inch round and you will still see your face.

I am sorry, but all bath remodels /new vanities are fail , unless the USER shall USE the storage provided. Wrong vanity design for the space, or wrong bath design on whole.

A counter cluttered with every grooming tool is absurd, when you can reach into a drawer, and return said item to a drawer.

I agree, I'm looking forward to a clear space that I can stand in front of without bumping elbows while my husband shaves.

If you share the layout and dimensions of the room you are working on you’ll get tons of expert help -

agree with one sink+ we did wall to wall to ceiling mirror and mounted sconces thru the mirror, give lots of reflection area - for a small space, you could have one long light bar that runs along the top of the mirror, it can be a very clean look

Sink should always be centered and one large mirror to span the entire vanity.

Kelsey Rospos, I like the picture you showed with one sink to the right. (I thought the sink cover was going to be more trouble than it would be worth.)

My only question is whether you want your sink quite so close to the door. But perhaps in your bath there is no door situated as shown in the photo.

With a vanity as long as shown, there really is no reason why the sink has to be centered, unless your plumbing dictates that and can't be moved. Slightly off-center would drive me mad, personally, but what you show looks deliberate and very practical.

Ok, for the sake of getting more opinions...here are some general AI renderings. Side sconce lights, top bar, backlit generally...I think I'm just drowning in decisions with my entire project. If anyone has images of their own to share or products they love, I'd love to see some ideas!

I prefer the second option-1 long mirror with a long light bar over the top. I think you'll get better light that way. The sconces on the side are going to create shadows from one side or the other and leave a dark area in the center of the mirror when you have such a long mirror. A quick internet search yielded lots of results for a 30x48 mirror. You could also have a mirror cut to that size and frame it, but I think the thin framed mirrors look less bulky. You can find light bars from 36-48" as well.

I like the one on the left best with the vertical sconces. The mirror is very pretty with the curved top.

But I think all three would look better if the sink were in the center. It's just so weird to have one sink off to the side. But you know what you want and what works for you.

Dance with the gal who brought you..........

    Best below

. Look at the mid century leg on the vanity. If it ISN'T your vanity? Say so. please

"You capped the plumbing" .............I am just not going there.

The next owners will still have to remove counter, find a sink, mount the sink, put the top back on. Whatever.......................

Do it now, add the sink, Do surface mount medicine cabinet mirrors, as you won't have room for recessed with the shower behind if you have plumbed that?

Outfit the sink bases with pullouts.

Is the pocket door at a master bedroom shared wall?

Is this a reno? why not show the whole thing , please and all that surrounds the bath

Where is your GFI going........since you have a POCKET door at left? Mmmmmm? Hate these mounted on a back wall unless rotated and place IN the backsplash riser. Meaning a bit more height to the riser, like 5" vs 4.

Wall to Wall mirror roughly. Pocket door to right so outlet in backsplash. Bath of 2 girls who probably weren't ever in it at the same time. Right area was nice for primping and curling irons.

We have two full bathrooms on the second floor. Our primary ensuite has two sinks in a five-foot long vanity plus one surface-mounted medicine cabinet. Our first 20 years in the house, we woke up together and he shaved at one sink while I got ready at the other. We told each other our dreams, planned dinner for that night, shared complaints about the loud traffic, etc. It was a wonderful intimate few minutes before we left for work together, but our grooming tools always felt a little cramped. When we retired and no longer had to get ready at the same time, I moved to the hall bathroom, which has a single right-justified sink in a five-foot vanity. And don’t you know, within a week my tools and products were spread all over the counter, and they felt a little cramped! So now I’m back with my husband in the ensuite. The symmetry of the two sinks below a huge mirror looks much better to us than the single right-justified one, and we realized that if we improved our habits and allocated the countertop real estate fairly, we didn’t need to feel crowded at all. This was a case where both function and aesthetics drove the decision, and the opportunities for conversation were actually part of the functionality.

@Jan Moyer this vanity is the signature hardware Novak 60" and is what I am ordering but the images are just AI renderings, so there may be issues with how it is depicted and I didn't want to waste time and energy trying to get it to render gfcis and my exact faucet, backsplash, etc
