Are you asking about whether you should add some type of treatment to the ceiling (example, wood planks/wood beams/etc)? If you like a Scandinavian style, I would think that you wouldn't want to add extra details to the ceiling.

However, maybe you are looking for some other type of suggestions?

WOW I think you need an architect to see what could be done that is just weird and unuseable space.IIf possible take pics from further back so we can get a better idea of that whole space

so if everything is being gutted, what is going to replace it?

what are your plans for this room ?

are you looking for advice on planking the ceiling w/wood?

Painting it a diff color?

Is the fireplace staying or will it still protrude?

some ideas,,,remove the small windows, make bigger windows. ceiling-wood, beams, whatever

(and yes, these are not inexpensive ideas. But if you said the room is being gutted and you want more modern/scandi style, then this is what you can do. not too difficult either.

Of course putting in these larger windows and altering the exterior would be the brunt of overall cost. redoing the fireplace would be the other.

If you can DIY you can offset a lot of the cost by doing your own demo and your own shopping for materials, maybe some install. I've planked many ceilings w/two people. takes a full day or two, but it sure is cheap!

Beth's pics are certainly better than what you have but I need to see the whole space . Beths ideas are awesome but not inexpensive .

What do you mean by "Scandinavian style"? Norwegian cottage? Danish modern circa 1952? Elsinore Castle? The better you can define your vision, the more helpful the advice you get will be.
