Pick flooring first.. at least bring in a few samples so you get a general idea of the direction you like. you are spending a lot .. paint all cabs / all new floor. i might go ahead and get new drawers and replace island / it will add to your budget but you are up there anyway. re your question / likely a shade of off white or bisque for perimeter and a different island whether paint or new wood cabs to work w wood flooring . You will transform the look by painting the yellowed maple along w beautiful flooring

here is taupe and warm off white .. for cabs ( a little different than white) …then picture your hardwood floor but pls get floor samples so you get direction with everything.

Can you show the rest of the room?

wow, you went backwards. floor is first, (actually painting the cabs is first so you can protect your new floors), then countertop, and then tile.

what kind of proper wood floors are you doing? that will decide what shade and tone the paint on the cabs and the wall should be.

what are the lights you have in the cans? they look a little warm. you should have LED 4000K temp lights for the most neutral color. nothing higher or it looks too cool. nothing warmer because then it's too yellow. 3800-4000K is usually perfect.

As for that island, can you redo it? Meaning, trim it out before you paint? it will make a HUGE diff in finished look. ditto at the end of the cabinet run

You can get paint grade poplar and trim it out something like this, prime and paint.

have you interviewed companies to paint the cabs? are you aware of all the steps that must be taken for a quality paint job?

the skeleton is painted on site. all of the doors and drawers should be taken back to their shop for sanding, priming(fine sanding AGAIN) and then a spray lacquer. find out what they are using.

A really good paint job will not be cheap.

I had mine done 8 years ago and they're still holding up perfectly. they replaced all of the doors and drawer fronts (if you notice mine were two diff styles) and did solid maple rails w/mdf center panel( which take paint better than the solid wood panel)

You might consider having that done w/yours.

I got the 45 degree beveled edge shaker trim. for all of the doors and drawers it was another 2K.

Since you have the older style of trim around the doors, it may be worth looking into

I also had drawers made into the island, moved the micro, and had a vent hood made.

on your island, it might be worth it to take out those doors and put in longer drawers if you have the room. look at my island side before and after. so much better. I also have doors at the very front of the island across from the stove top.

Or, get drawers put in this spot

make sure you pick out new hardware so they can properly patch the old holes. you prob want to go a bit more contemporary to match the tile

we did island and backsplash first because the previous one was terrible and once ripped out needed wall patched up!

i think the lights are warm i will switch them out. for floors im thinking something like this- a bit cooler toned but based on the comments i will get some floor samples

As with most projects determining a budget and creating a plan that fits within the budget is preferable to just replacing one thing and finding that you have created more issues that now need to be resolved.

I have seen homes where small renovations end up swirling into much bigger projects than anticipated or ending up with one lovely room in a home where it just doesn't fit.

Before jumping head first into more projects take some time to create a whole home style and color palette. Figure out your budget, walk through your home and decide what you want to change, can afford to change in the reasonably near future. (Can't afford today, but should be able to afford next year or in two years vs change will be 10-15 years from now or will never change.)

Decide on your style and how it is going to work with those things that cannot be changed or will not be changed. Next think about your favorite colors (NOT NEUTRAL - actual colors.)

Even if you want an all white house - it has to be the right white and that will be different if you want to use muted deep gold and olive green accent colors or you want to use light and bright coral and seafoam green accent colors.

After picking your favorite colors, figure out the neutral color family that works with both the colors you love and the colors that have to stay.

You have the following choices:

Pink beige

Orange beige

Yellow beige

Green beige

Greige - falls between beige and gray with green undertones

Green Gray

Blue Gray

Violet Gray

Taupe - falls between beige and gray with violet of pink undertones.

My two sisters and I like very different colors and have different styles. Below is a picture of representations of our colors and styles based on wallpapers we each like:

The Taupe and violet gray neutrals that make my colors sing (top row) are very different than the greige colors and green or yellow beige colors that make the second row sing. Both of those can work with darker tones as well, but the third row needs more pastels and can work with clean yellow beige creams, orange beige creams and light blue grays. The greige colors that work so beautifully with the second row look muddy/dirty next to the cleaner pastels and the pink and purple undertones that work well with the top row scream pink next to the third row. Kind of like your blue backsplash makes your cabinets scream orange.

Your cabinets would have liked cream so much better and would have accepted some greens without screaming, but blue made them scream.

By planning we can create a whole home color palette that works with the things we love and the things that have to stay without making expensive mistakes.

My niece recently bought a new home. She had a lot of things that needed to be done immediately (electrical, plumbing, pool needed repaired. . . ) She also wanted the home to reflect her style and work with her furniture, so she had the floors refinished and most of the home painted. She estimated that the kitchen would get gutted and renovated in about a year - maybe two, so we left the entire kitchen as is and ignored the colors.

We picked a neutral paint color and the flooring stain at the same time, selecting a pair that worked with her furnishings and art and decor. We painted the living room, stairwell, hallways with the neutral and selected a white for the trim that went well with the neutral paint color and the flooring. She loves blue. Her husband is color blind and sees blue as a color where most everything else looks gray. So her art and decor has a lot of blues and some muted greens. She knew his office would have to be blue and she knew her bedroom would also be blue - specifically BM Wedgewood Gray. She had that color in her last home and is absolutely in love with the color. She wanted the master bath to also be painted the same color, but both upstairs bathrooms had been renovated by the last owner and had antique white cabinets, creamy yellow beige tile floors and creamy yellow beige tile in the shower. Everything screamed yellow when set next to Wedgewood Gray. The Antique white and creamy yellow beiges also didn't work well next to her hall color (Edgecomb Gray).

We decided to use the mossy green she used downstairs in her dining room (October Mist) in both the upstairs bathrooms letting it act as the buffer between the the preferred colors and the yellow beige/ antique white.

In 5 or 6 years she can update the bathrooms, but we found something that works until she can get to that project.

Knowing what she could and couldn't afford to do in the next year and being able to prioritize allowed her to get most of what she wanted and make a few compromises to best achieve her objectives while saving toward the more long term projects.

thank you for the breakdown!! i knew the blue would make the cabinets stick out but we already loved it and knew we would be changing the cabinets as well. im thinking of looking at some flooring and paint samples to see what makes it pop. the whole house is def more cool toned and thats what we want the kitchen to reflect as well

Now you will have to address the flooring and honestly you did this all backwards so now a lot more complcated . The flooring should have been done first, now all the appliances have to be taken out the island now has to have trim on the floor to do the new floor or it needs to be removed . . The blue backsplash now drives the bus. IMO white is the color for the cabinets what white only you can tell what works with the blue .

honestly wasnt really sure we would replace the flooring, still am not! but the countertop and backsplash had to be done since they were honestlyy terrible looking lol and had cracks and all that, and appliances had to be replaced due to being 25+ years old and a safety hazard. i think i will focus on the cabinets right now even if the order didnt make sense, but i understand ur advice!

Match the paint to SOMEthing. Since the countertops are new and are obviously staying, I would match the paint to them.

yea theres a fireplace thats taupe i will take pics and post the rest of the space! the rug in the dining room is red and blue .. im realizing it will make more sense to show the rest of the room lol
