    Smaller art would be better.

Thanks...this is a 60x40 what size approximately do you think?

These appear to be AI images so hard to say but I don’t think it looks great that the picture is so much larger than the fireplace insert. Can you share the actual room?

this is the room. the only AI tihng about it is the art, mirror and the sconces. The rest is mine

AI changes everything. Take a pic of the actual space.

Here is my room. That art was temporary...it felt too small and too dark.,

This art is too high and appears not centred. The size seems better to me

The art is much nicer. I like the art in your first pic but smaller. About the same size as the firebox opening can be good. Keep the height about the same as in first pic.

Art- if the AI image is correct and the mirror reflects nothing but a door.

I think the AI art size is fine. It's very pretty in your room.

I don't think you have the placement or the sizes of either correct.

The sconces for sure should NOT be mounted beyond the mantle.

I prefer the sconces that are shorter for your room.

Thanks for the suggestion...I was avoiding square art because I thought it was too narrow, but it actually looks good after you put in the sconces.

Art. A mirror has to reflect something worth seeing to be considered and yours reflects a door.

The mirror is flat no, The art is alright a bit boring but if you love it that is all that matters with art. Please make sure somone can reach that coffee table .

Between the two the artwork looks better. The mirror reflects a door (in that particular photo) and that is of no real interest.

Art, and @BeverlyFLADeziner 's layout with smaller sconces.

They're taken at different points (one further away) so the lighting is different, but, in general, I prefer art instead of a mirror. Not that art, and not that big. I like the sconces places where they are (outside of the fireplace frame), but I think the art should be smaller.....If that is 60x40, try something more like 48x32 (i.e. decrease by 20%).

For demonstration purposes I updated the photo of your original art to show better placement.

Same size , just placed lower (should be 4" =10 " above the mantle - but the space above the art should be larger than the space below the art.

Better size - The art you had was about 1/2 the size of the mantle - should be 2/3 or 3/4.

I prefer the art to the mirror, but I think it is a bit too large

I don't love your wall color with all your taupe/gray furniture.

No mirror. Go with correctly sized art as other have illustrated.

Maureen that's really pretty..I mocked it up on my photo. I used 2 difference sconces. I like both sconces, hard to decide.

Beverly's mock up is perfect. Sconces brought in so they center on the side columns of the mantel and art about the size of the firebox. I prefer the more traditional sconces. IMO, the others are too modern for your space.

The art is better, MO, but just a bit too wide.

this looks good if the sconces were moved inward a bit.

better placement, they just need to be a tad smaller

you see how these are placed? withing the border of the mantle?

I like the other sconces maureen showed, but when photo shopped they appear a bit too large.

sconces aren't mandatory. you could do trim work

Thanks, I was going to do wall molding/trim, but it's too much work! lol. I see about placing the lighting within the mantle.

I like the artwork you have now much better than the AI art. I like it because it adds some contrast rather than blending right into the wall. If you keep it, you need to hang it lower, though (Jennifer Hogan already showed you what that will look like). If you buy something new, something with more interest and depth of color than the pallid AI pic you showed, and a bigger size. Square looks good, but a wider horizontal is fine too.

    No to a mirror.

Going with art over fireplace. Mirror is too big and reflects doors.

FYI about the mirror reflection. That isn't my home reflection it's AI. I actually have a large window and starches that is a reflection.

Meant to say window and staircase reflection.

Your artwork looks good but think something with more depth and drama would look even better.

Artwork would be better above the fireplace
