I need help deciding on an exterior facelift.

In the process of giving our home a facelift. We are white washing the brick, new black roof and shutters. But can anyone help with giving me ideas or inspiration photos on the color scheme, shutter ideas or accent pieces?

You could tackle some changes to the windows.

The windows look brand new, with stickers still on them, so a bit late to be changing those!

Sorry but whitewashing the brick will not be an improvement it will instantly devalue your home . Removing the shutters and painting all the siding a darker color from the brick would be my advice . A nice new front door and thenlandscaping will give you a much better look and save the brick

the roof is very heavy, and black will make it even heavier looking.

it will look like two differnt layers. Unify the colors. It will make the home look more prominent, a real statement.

A lighter colored shingle to compliment the brick (Please don't paint the brick, you need that natural brick texture to draw attention away from the heavy overhang of the roof)

Use your brick color as inspiration for the siding color. A green tone shutter rather than a harsh black. Paint the front door a welcoming color. Trim back the shrub/hedge lower than the window sills.

Celery hit the nail on the head, and can surely do a bit better with the landscaping !!

I’d love to see a visualization of what Lyn is suggesting— that color scheme is one I’ve always really liked (and would generally prefer to a black and white scheme), I’m just having a hard time deciding how well it might work with the proportions of your house. That said, celery’s black and white visualization would be a big improvement from your current scheme!

Your brick is really nice. It's light, but interesting. White and black houses like the one @Celery showed are so common these days. It's trendy and boring. The taupe siding and black shutters are your problem. I like the colors @Lyn Nielson suggested. I'd do the lighter blue on the siding and the shutters in the navy.

A touch of color? (using Celery's rendering). Color draws the eye, in this case down from the roof.

Lyns color combo and roof are beautiful. Get a new front door as suggested above. If the windows are new then you should be able to purchase “grids” to transform their apperance into a more traditional style. More in keeping with current pretty brick.

Will suggest that you check with your local building department to see if a black roof is allowable. More and more building departments are requiring light colored or "cool" roofs for new construction. My guess is after having dealt with many jurisdictions is that even a replacement roof would be considered "new" and, therefore, must meet those requirements. Another suggestion - if you want shutters on your house replace what you have with real operable ones that are correctly sized to fit the windows. Am thinking that a board and batten style shutter would best fit your house. Don't forget to include shutter dogs to hold them open when you don't want them closed.

Before taking such a big step, consider the outcome, as it’s important that the overall effect feels harmonious.

    - Because the roof is prominent, I think black will take over/feel too heavy.

    - If you aren’t painting the siding around windows, their color and effect should be considered.

    - I’d remove the shutters, given the window on right has siding so facade feels off balanced.

    - Color scheme wise…I’d head softer. Have you looked for other color combos on line?

    - Landscaping will have a huge effect on the overall “feel” per picture below.
