If your roof is brown and you’re not changing it, and you live in an often cloudy climate, I wouldn’t choose dark blue. In fact, I wouldn’t chose dark anything.

My choice would be a light/pale green. It’s not so drab and would go great with a brown roof. Here’s a sample; I love the green but the salmon door is a little too far out there for me.

The pale green house is nice. I agree that a soft green (and I’d choose a somewhat ’dirty’ herbal shade) is better with the brown roof than blue would be.

With respect to the above salmon door, the curved portico and slight dutch roof seem upbeat and less dour than OP’s tall colonial so I’m ok with the light-hearted color.

Because of the (many) white windows, I would just do white, and absolutely no shutters, unless you want to spend money on authentic ones.

It will be gorgeous with all your evergreen trees.

I also like the foundation plantings in the second photo.

For a white paint color choice, S W Pure White (warm) would work with the grays of north light. You have a lot of roof and the color plays a part in your choice of a door color. B.M. Blue Dusk looks great with dark brown and white.

If you are set on an exterior blue, with the white windows, north light, and brown roof, my choice of blue would be the same...B.M. Blue Dusk. Front door? Again, love all the trees,

Thanks for the feedback. I agree about the window but that's a project for another day! I do like the greens a lot but several nearby neighbors have greens and husband prefers blue. The white is beautiful in the photo, but I'm not sure how it would look on our house. I will check out Blue Dusk, it seems close to SW Blustery Sky which I liked. We will be doing some landscaping as well.
