For me the preferred wood would be the same wood flooring running through the rest of the house if I liked it or with whatever wood I'd be replacing, for a cohesive look.

a solid flooring with an area rug on top, so you can dust and vacuum regularly.

a lot of dust is generated in a bedroom with bedding sizing, etc. Keep your space clean.

It really depends on what is in the rest of your home, your budget and your specific preferences.

I think it is generally preferable to continue the same flooring as the hallways and main areas of the home.

If that is not possible I would want the bedroom to be a softer finish than the hallway and main areas of the home - Tile to hardwood, LVP or carpet, Hardwood to carpet, LVP to carpet or carpet to carpet.

I wouldnt want to go from a softer surface to a harder surface in a bedroom. I would go from softer to harder for bathrooms, kitchens or laundry rooms.

@WestCoast Hopeful….. same here at our previous house. Both of our current homes have hard surfaces with area rugs but I much preferred the bedroom carpet, that’s why God made Dyson sticks, We vacuum under the beds regularly, own 2 of them, one in each house.

I lived in a house with tile floors for 20 years. I bought a home that had wall to wall carpet installed and suddenly my legs and feet didn't hurt every night. I am slowly replacing carpet with LVT flooring. Still cushioned, but not hard like tile. The only room that I immediately replaced the carpet was the front bathroom - had wall to wall carpet and the old man who lived here had bad aim. The smell made your eyes burn. Carpet and padding went and had to replace some of the floorboards near the toilet.

Overall, I don't have any real objections to carpet. I know people who do, but really, people lived with wall to wall carpet for a lot of years before it became taboo - dirty - disgusting. I don't understand the drama. I also don't have separate rooms inside my bathroom for the toilet. The bathroom is the room for the toilet.

Hi, thank you all for your insight and responses. Currently all bedrooms and hallway have wall to wall carpet. All different in color. I replaced the wall to wall carpet with lvt on the ground floor. I am thinking of replacing the carpet in all bedrooms and the hall with lvt and have tile in the bathrooms. Should the stairs be the same flooring as the bedrooms? I have heard lvt is a little slick on stairs.
