I'm not a pro but a painted or stained wood fence in sage green or charcoal gray or black. Paint the old sections to match is a consideration.

More Sage green fences.... seems nice and soft, not like a primary green and works with your hardscape and foliage.

Slatted wood feels contemporary. The same color old and new flow together well in the first photo posted.

Thank you for your research. They do look nice! I showed your first picture to my husband and we came up to the idea to do a fence with faux ivy, as we really liked your green suggestion. Thank you for helping us, you triggered the thought of having something green rather than the usual fences.

A deep neutral is a wonderful backdrop for plants.

Make sure you use UV protected faux ivy and spray with UV protection every year. Fading can be delayed for quite a while.

A wood, painted fence would not be considered 'low maintenance'. Faux ivy???? For an outside application this is not long lasting solution. I would be looking at stone/cement/stucco instalation.

We will have ivy protected faux ivy. Thank you for the tip about uv protection spray, this will help maintain it longer.

Behind the ivy we will have a neutral wood color but we will barely see it, if any. However the ivy wall will only be on the right side, parallel to the pergola. The wall that already has a dark brown/bronze fence will stay and we will just put some plants because as you mentionned this will be a beautiful backdrop.

We already have faux ivy in other places of the yard and so far it lasted, but the sun exposure is probably not as direct as it will be here, so the spray is definitely a good tip.

We have a dark brown metal fence along our back lot. The dark brown actually recedes into the background and makes the space feel larger. I recommend a dark neutral color behind plants.

In our area using ridged metal panels is becoming a popular fence look. some have wood posts and/or trim around the panels to add interest.
