Roof and siding help

Hi!

currently my house has a brown roof, yellow siding and brick. Im getting a new roof and will in the near future change the color of the siding as we do not like the yellow.

looking for your opinons on-

what color should the roof be?

what color should the siding be?

i was thinking a dark gray/black roof w a greyish bluish

siding… would this look good w the bricks?….

attached are- pics of the house currently and brick close up

, and pics the roofer gave me w the black and gray roofs.

No blue with brick .I like a green sage tones with brick and just a lighter brown for the roof since it is so prominant and the dark makes it look oppressive. No shutters and maybe the same color for all the white as you choose for the siding sort of like this. This is the color of green I like with brick and I would not have grids for the windows in your case .

Consider removing the shutters and paint the door a similar color to the roof - the less breaking up of the facade the better. If interested, consider the porch area.

Here is the black/dark gray roof. i jusy noticed it didnt upload yesterday.

those are both great suggestions! i have not explored the brown roof options as i was sure grey would be right but maybe not. what color siding is the other suggestion? is that a beige or gray or?

Slatey blues look great with brick. Lots of houses around here have that combination.

    I agree with Sigrid

Here is a brown roof. would this look better? i think it would look nice w sage green as suggested. would it look nice w a slatey blue or beige?

if this was your house, what roof and siding combo would you choose? thanks in advance for your help. its a big decision to make and i am horrible w trying to visualize. and horrible at design/decorating…

I think the darker is better? bc my bricks have so much going on that a more uniform roof looks better maybe?

Wow! that looks loveley! thank u for the visual!

The gray roof and blue gray color look wonderful with your brick. I love it with the shutters removed. It opens up the facade.

I'll suggest raising the porch roof. Maybe remove the railing to open up the front a bit more.

Just saw this photo (Laurel Bern).

Red brick; off white siding and trim, and a very light roof. Two colors only and you have white windows. (no shutters on your house).

Have you considered a different treatment for the brick? If not, lighter brown is the roof color to lean toward, then choose siding color. Agree with previous comments to remove shutters and paint trim same as siding.

No brown roof. it limits your options.

go w/a warmer charcoal (not a deep black). the charcoal can work w/any color.

this would be a nice roof shade

If you must keep the red brick as is (more on that down below), then I would choose one of these roof tones and do a dark siding color, redo the porch (c-below) and landscape

I like the more modern look this gives.

    Other colors w/red brick

Lots of pictures and diff ideas:

Landscaping, paint front door, repair the concrete porch (and think about painting it or even laying down a tile or stencil) plus new railing and posts, will be a complete redo.

I like PPFs idea about raising the roof over the porch. Huge improvement.

another idea to redo your porch. fill in and cover the gaps in the concrete, redo beds.

This brick isn't anything special. looks like mass produced manufactured brick.

I'd apply Romabio Masonry 'paint' ( it's a lime based tint that will age naturally and let the brick breathe) This way you'll have a lot more color options, and frankly, will look better.

similar home w/the masonry on the brick.

charcoal roof, charcoal shutters, new door, flower beds, walkway.

same w/this one. no shutters, gray roof, landscaping, open porch, mcm style front door, new windows

here's a before an after, similar siding and brick to yours

see the charcoal roof? you can do a dark fascia trim if you decide to do all white

same house, close up of porch.

You may not have to replace the siding. you could have an open porch like this. ( I think the brick pavers look great)

these are pretty easy to install over the cement porch and make such an impact. you can lime wash them or mortar wash them when done.

another updated porch idea. Landscape pavers.

    Flower bed ideas, cedar posts:

first thing, decide on your roof color.

Then decide how you want the overall look to appear (more traditional, mcm, or a bit more modern) Then decide on your colors, if you keep the shutters, front door, etc

Thank you so much for all of your help! ❤️

dont paint your brick. its classic! the gray roof and slate blue siding would be my choice. no shutters. paint your front door to match one of the red tones in the brick

What do you think about painting over the plastic siding vs gettimg new siding? im getting a quote for new siding. if its not too bad ill go for it bc im really concerned that i wont do somethimg right w the painting and it will start peeling and looking crappy sooner rather than later…

If it can be avoided We never paint vinyl siding. Also certain colors can't be painted on it and you will need to refer to your paint manufactrer and painter as to which those are. You have to be exceptionally meticulous in the prep work when painting it. Cleaning , bonding primer and special paint. Also you have to make sure its a cool day but not cold and cloudy but not raining. The paint will bubble if painted in direct sunlight.

Definitely do not paint vinyl siding, it is a maintenance nightmare. https://www.buildersservicecompany.com/is-it-a-bad-idea-to-paint-vinyl-siding

@marhop, this brick is not a classic. sorry. It's post-war, manufactured 'brick' and half of it has already been 'painted'.

this is more of a classic brick (color and size). and still, it looks better in the after shot.

besides, I said a lime based product, not paint. Romabio doesn't need touch ups and will patina nicely over the years. it's a natural product.

    do not paint vinyl siding.

With white brick and gray roof you can use any color siding. Use enough coats of masonry paint, Romabio or lime wash to eliminate an undesireable pink undertone.

    • Paint all the brick white.
    • A mid-tone gray roof
    • Paint the door and screen door black
    • Remove the shutters
    • Square off the arches. Clad them.

I think it gives your house a crisp look.

We installed a screen door that slides open to one side like a roller blind. You will see your nice front door when not in use.
