How much space is necessary for the area where the dining table is?

My space layout is very similar to this layout. How much space is comfortably needed for the walk way between the table and the bar/counter stools here?

    Ideally, a proper traffic lane between chairs, given that they would be pulled out, is a minimum of 42" or more. Typically, a standard traffic lane should be a minimum of 36".

    Are there times when this rule can be broken? It appears in this picture that the traffic lane is substantially reduced to accommodate function
