The Speed Queen model that cleans best is the toploader TC5. I am very happy with our SQ analog model from 2017. I can add water to the tub by holding the reset button for the water level, and using the clothespin fix can lift the lid to see all action. I also adjusted the default water levels in it. You can probably do most of that with your Whirlpool, but no modern TL washer gives you that flexibility now, so just be aware of that. The current TL SQs are all digital even though they have knobs, and are not as flexible as a 9 year old SQ or your Whirlpool. Our SQ set has been pretty trouble free and reliable, but the washer be rougher than I would like on the normal cycle, and too gentle on the delicate cycle. You should look at the recommended TC5 and see if it will serve your needs adequately.

howard1550, those direct-drive Whirlpools are a hot commodity on the refurb/resale market. Your leaking situation could be the drain pump which is still available (whopping $20-ish). The pump mounts directly to the front of the dual-shaft motor, easy to change. A potential glitch is slight/slow long-term leaking causing rusting of the motor's pump drive shaft.

More of a problem if the tub support centerpost is compromised, rusted-through. That item is NLA. They can sometimes be repaired with sealant of some type depending on the characteristics of the failure. Used specimens in reasonable condition can sometimes be found on eBay.

I currently have 7 year old Whirlpool front loader and dryer which we bought to replace the very ancient GE models that were here when we bought 8 years ago. I know that the machines have changed so significantly in the past 10 oer 15 years.

Also, DD has a very ancient Kenmore top loader in her basement. When she bought the house in 2016 it was very ancient but a super workhorse. They also have a very new one unit Washer Dryer upstairs which is mediocre. They have 4 kids, and basically the basement old one does 99%. She had repair people for the stacked unit she had upstairs ( prior to the latest replacement)and they all commented that if the basement machine gives her grief, it is definitely worth repairing because today, it could not be duplicated........
